Freshman Cierah Jackson Powers Fighting Scots to Pair of Wins in Hawks Invitational

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Edinboro volleyball team improved to 5-1 with a pair of wins in the Hawks Invitational, hosted by Saint Anselm. The Fighting Scots opened with a 3-1 win over Bentley, followed by a 3-2 triumph over Saint Anselm. They lost the first game in both contests before coming back to win. Bentley is 3-2 and Saint Anselm 2-4.

Edinboro was originally scheduled to play Florida Tech in its opening match, but FIT cancelled the trip with Hurricame Irma approaching. The hurricane also impacted Bentley, who was originally scheduled to compete in a tournament in Florida but cancelled the trip because of the impending weather, instead taking FIT's place in the Hawk Invitational.

Edinboro plays two more matches on Saturday, facing Nyack at 12:15 p.m. and Assumption at 4:45 p.m.

EDINBORO 3, BENTLEY 1
The Fighting Scots dropped the first game, 25-18, before roaring back to win the next three games by scores of 25-23, 25-22, and 25-18. Freshman Ceriah Jackson paved the way with a season-high 24 kills and a .435 hitting percentage. That came after she totaled 20 kills in the last match against Bellarmine. Challen Litwiler added 12 kills, 20 digs, and 3 service aces. Taylor Palowski add13 digs, Mega Screptock 11, and Sydney Trathen 10. Trathen also contributed 40 assists and 3 service aces.

EDINBORO 3, SAINT ANSELM 2 
Saint Anselm captured the first game, 25-21, but Edinboro won the next two games by identical scores of 25-21. The Hawks would rally for a 25-22 win in game four, but Edinboro won the fifth game, 15-11. Cierah Jackson led a trio of players with double-figure kills with 17. Jill Glover added 14 kills and Challen Litwiler 13. Litwiler had a team-high 21 di9gs, with Jessica Giannocaro and Hannah Brentar contributing 12 apiece. Sydney Trathen totaled 47 assists and 11 digs, along with 3 total blocks.
