Fighting Scots Open PSAC Action wiith Five-Set Loss at PSAC Central Division Favorite Pitt-Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- The Edinboro volleyball team took PSAC Central Division pre-season favorite Pitt-Johnstown to extra points in the fifth set before falling 25-16, 19-25, 16-25, 25-9, 16-14. The loss is just the second on the season for the Fighting Scots 10-2, 0-1 PSAC while the Mountain Cats improve to 10-3, 1-0 PSAC.

Both of Edinboro's losses have come in five-set matches. The last loss for the Scots was to Bellarmine at the Rebich Investments Invitational hosted by Edinboro.

Edinboro took a 2-1 set lead to start the match including the 25-16 set three win. The Mountain Cats would come back in the fourth behind an 11-2 run to force just their second fifth-set of the season. The final set went back and forth with the score tied late at 12-12 and 13-13. A kill by Sydney Trathen would pull Edinboro back to 14-all before a Mountain Cat kill and attack error would give them the 16-14 final set.

Senior Challen Litwiler lead Edinboro with her team leading ninth double-double of the season. She tallied 12 kills and 13 digs. Freshmen Cierah Jackson had 12 kills in the match to bring her season total to 148. On defense, Trathen added 32 digs while Freshman Paige Morris added two blocks. Freshmen Jessica Giannoccaro and Molly Breier both reached double-digit digs with 16 and 15 respectively.

Pitt-Johnstown was led by Allison Mondorff who had a double-double with 13 digs and 21 assists. Noelle Carota had nine kills while J.C. Longeville had 22 assists.

Edinboro remains on the road with a contest at Lock Haven on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
