EDINBORO, Pa. -- For the first time in eight meetings against Shippensburg, the Edinboro volleyball team did not play five sets. The Raiders pulled out a 25-22, 25-19, 25-19 win. It marks the first time since Edinboro's victory during the 2009 season the two teams did not go the distance.
Kills by
Cierah Jackson and
Hannah Cantrill gave the Fighting Scots a 12-10 lead in the first set. A Shippensburg attack error would even up the set at 13-13. With the Raiders leading 21-19, Edinboro would notch two kills from
Tessa Sikora and
Challen Litwiler. A kill by
Sydney Trathen would bring Edinboro to 22-24 before the Raiders would close out the first set.
Edinboro jumped out to a 5-2 lead to start the second set behind a block by
Paige Morris and Cantrill, a kill by Jackson, and a service ace by
Taylor Palowski. This set would be a set of runs before, with Edinboro pulling within 23-19 late, but Shippensburg scored two more to take the 2-0 match lead.
No team could score more than three points in a row in the third set. The Fighting Scots took a 11-10 lead over the Raiders with block by Jackson and Morris. A kill by Litwiler would bring the match to 20-17, but Shippensburg would sneak by and finish the set 25-19.
Litwiler recorded her 10th double-double on the season with 12 kills and 13 digs. Trathen dished out 32 assists while Morris tallied five block assists.
The Fighting Scots face off against Millersville tomorrow, September 30 at 12 noon to wrap up the weekend's action in McComb Fieldhouse.
