EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro men's swimming team picked up its first win of the season on Friday, as they defeated Shippensburg 104-99 at McComb Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots improve to 1-3 on the season, while the Raiders fall to 2-5. Wednesday's dual marked Edinboro's first meet at McComb since October 21 against Indiana(Pa.).
Heading into the 200-yard freestyle relay, the final event of the afternoon, both teams were tied at 93 points, apiece. But the relay 'A' team of Steven Sell, Tommy Horan, Zachary Bennett and Nick Bradford finished at 1:29.60, less than two seconds before Shippensburg's relay 'A' team completed the event, for an 11 to 4 point difference in the final score.
Including the first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Fighting Scots finished atop six events. Six Fighting Scots also placed PSAC qualifying marks in the win.
Bradford won the 200-yard IM with a PSAC qualifying time of 2:02.42. Michael Kocher placed first in the 200-yard backstroke with a conference qualifying time at 2:01.06. Dylan Cerroni finished atop the 200-yard breaststroke with a qualifying time at 2:18.99. Both Kocher and Cerroni were members of the 200-yard medley relay 'A' team that finished in first place at 1:40.07. Jackson Bangert and Marcus Grosso were also on the team.
Grosso also had an individual win, finishing atop the 200-yard butterfly with a conference qualifying mark at 1:59.91. He also placed a qualifying time in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in second place at 1:46.93.
Horan recorded two PSAC qualifying times against the Raiders. He finished second in the 100-yard freestyle at 49.42, and in third place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.70.
Sell also placed a qualifying time, as he finished the 50-yard freestyle in second place, qualifying at 22.66.
Cerroni was .05 seconds short of a PSAC qualifying time in the 200-yard IM. He finished third at 2:03.60.
The Fighting Scots continue its three-game homestand on January 19 against Gannon. The dual is set to start at 6 p.m.
