Seton Hill Ends Boro's Three-Game Winning Streak on Blustery Night

THE RUNDOWN

  • Final Score: Seton Hill 2, Edinboro 0
  • Records: Edinboro 5-9-0, 4-9-0 PSAC l Seton Hill 10-4-1, 9-4-1 PSAC
  • Location: Edinboro, Pa. – Sox Harrison Stadium
  • Box Score
  • The Short Story: Seton Hill ended Edinboro's three-match winning streak while keeping its own PSAC playoff hopes alive with a 2-0 win on a cold and blustery night at Sox Harrison Stadium. Italia Biondi and Alyssa Neast scored five minutes apart in the first half for the lone goals of the match. Seton Hill came in ranked seventh in initial NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings, and are sixth in the United Soccer Coaches Division II Atlantic Region poll.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Seton Hill opened the scoring on Italia Biondi's ninth goal of the season at 30:58. The redshirt junior took a long pass from Emily LoPresti and was able to beat Anna Voelker from 25 yards out. Biondi came into the match ranked fifth in the PSAC in goals.
  • Seton Hill increased its lead to 2-0 at 35:21 when Alyssa Neast collected a loose ball off a scramble inside the box and scored from 15 yards out. It was her third goal of the season.

GAME NOTES

  • Seton Hill had a slight 21-18 advantage in shots, including 11-9 in shots on goal. Edinboro had four corner kicks and Seton Hill one.
  • Freshman Anne Voelker collected nine saves in goal for Edinboro. Jessica Neill, a third team All-PSAC selection a year ago, was in goal for the Griffins and finished with 9 saves, as well.
  • The game was in start contrast to last year's match, when Seton Hill won a wild 6-5 decision that saw Edinboro score twice late in the match to knot the score, only to see the Griffins score the game-winner with 46 seconds remaining.
  • Edinboro had won the first six meetings all-time with Seton Hill, but the Griffins have now prevailed in the last two meetings.
  • Both goals were scored with a strong wind in Seton Hill's advantage. Edinboro was unable to score with the wind in the second half.
  • Edinboro had three solid opportunities to score but were unable to find the back of the net. Midway through the first half, Danielle Chatten's shot from the left side from 15 yards out sailed just over the crossbar. Early in the second half, Brittnie Spithaler misfired from point blank, and later in the half Ashley Bayer was unable to get enough on the ball on an open look to get it past Neill.

UP NEXT

  • Edinboro plays its final home game of the season on Saturday, October 20, hosting East Stroudsburg. That match gets underway at 4:30 p.m. at Sox Harrison Stadium.
  • The Warriors come in with a 10-5-1 overall record and are 9-4-1 in conference play after a 2-1 loss to eighth-ranked Kutztown. It marked the second straight loss to a nationally-ranked opponent. They are looking to secure a home match in the PSAC Tournament.
  • The Fighting Scots wrap up their season with road contests at Pitt-Johnstown (Oct. 24) and Bloomsburg (Oct. 27).
