  • Box Score
  • The Short Story: It was Senior Day for Edinboro, with Halle Hammer, the lone senior on the team, recognized prior to the start of the match. Moments later, nearby lightning forced the first of two delays that would last a total of one hour and 20 minutes When the two teams were able to play, they did so in a heavy downpour at times, and with temperatures that fell into the high 30's late in the match. Edinboro grabbed a 1-0 lead midway through the first period on a goal by Danielle Chatten. The Warriors answered in the 62nd minute, then foiled Edinboro's upset attempt with the winning goal at 104:45. East Stroudsburg came in ranked sixth in the initial NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings, and is seventh in the United Soccer Coaches Division II Atlantic Region poll.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The young Edinboro team continued its strong play of late, taking a 1-0 lead on Danielle Chatten's seventh goal of the season. The junior forward rebounded her own missed shot and fired it in from 18 yards out past ESU goalkeeper Mauri Jackson into the right corner of the net.
  • With the rain pouring down, East Stroudsburg pushed forward in the second half, pressuring goalkeeper Anna Voelker. The Warriors finally managed to get one past the freshman when Monica Wood scored her seventh goal, assisted by Jules Sicker. The goal came from 25 yards out from the right side into the left corner of the net at the 62:00 mark.
  • While both teams would have opportunities, neither team would score through the rest of regulation and one ten-minute overtime period. The Warriors finally notched the game-winner when Philippa Borjesson scored her second goal of the year at 104:45. Haley Skove's long throw in bounced off an Edinboro defender's head, and bounded out to Borjesson. Her shot from the left side from 20 yards out rolled past an outstretched Voelker into the right side of the net.
