Edinboro Remains Perfect vs. UPJ Thanks to Manns' Goal

  • The Short Story: The Fighting Scots dominated the action, but could find the back of the net just once. That came at the 63:45 mark, as Rebecca Manns scored her third goal of the season. Freshman Anna Voelker made that goal stand up, as she recorded her third shutout. Edinboro is now 6-0-0 all-time against UPJ, posting shutouts in the last three meetings.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Edinboro outshot the Mountain Cats, 17-4, over the first 45 minutes, but halftime arrived with a scoreless tie. The Fighting Scots finally broke the ice at 63:45 when Rebecca Manns took a pass from Brittnie Spithaler on a breakaway and beat UPJ goalkeeper Leigh Appolonia. It was Mann's third goal of the season.    

GAME NOTES   

  • Edinboro held had a 26-11 advantage in shots, including 16-7 in shots on goal. The margin was even larger in the first half, when the Fighting Scots held a 17-4 advantage. Both teams had 3 corner kicks.
  • Freshman Anne Voelker collected 7 saves in goal for Edinboro while recording her third shutout of the season.. Voelker now has 102 saves on the season, which ranks third in a season at Edinboro.  
  • Edinboro has won all six meetings with UPJ. The last three and four of the last five have been by shutout.   


UP NEXT   

  • Edinboro wraps up the 2018 campaign on Saturday, October 27, playing at Bloomsburg. The Huskies are the top team in the PSAC with an 11-2-2 league record and 12-2-2 overall.   
  • Bloomsburg is ranked tenth in the  United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Top 25 and is first in both the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Atlantic Region poll and the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region poll..
  • The series record is tied at 9-9-2. Edinboro has won the last two meetings, including a 1-0 decision a year ago at Sox Harrison Stadium.
