Edinboro Falls 3-1 To Pitt-Johnstown Despite Eldredge's Third Straight Double-Double

  • The Short Story: The Edinboro volleyball team opened up their final road weekend of the season with 3-1 loss to Pitt-Johnstown despite a double-double from Alicia Eldredge. Edinboro dropped the first set before tying up the match thanks to a 25-21 second set win. The Mountain Cats won the final two sets to take the victory. Pitt-Johnstown improved to 15-11 overall and 9-5 in the PSAC Central. The Fighting Scots moved to 13-11 overall and 6-8 in the PSAC Northwest after the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Edinboro kept things close in the first set against the Mountain Cats as Pitt-Johnstown held a slim 15-13 lead midway through the opening frame.
  • The Fighting Scots pulled within two at 18-16 before the Mountain Cats pulled away, going on a 7-0 to end the first set, 25-16.
  • Cierah Jackson had three of her eight kills in the set while Sally Sterkel and Paige Morris each had two.
  • The Fighting Scots never trailed by more than one point in the second set, the last time at 12-11.
  • Edinboro went on a 4-1 run and never trailed again. During this stretch, three different Fighting Scots recorded a kill (Morris, Megan Screptock, and Alicia Eldredge).
  • Holding a 14-13 lead, Edinboro would go an 11-8 run with six different players recording a kill. Sterkel had three of her six kills of the set during this stretch while Morris finished off the set with a kill from Molly Breier.
  • The third set went back and forth as neither team was able to score more than three points in a row. The Mountain Cats and Fighting Scots were tied up at 14-14 midway through the set.
  • An 8-2 stretch by Pitt-Johnstown pushed the hosts back in the lead with a 22-16 late.
  • The Mountain Cats took a 2-1 set lead with a 25-17 second set win with an Edinboro error.
  • Edinboro jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start the fourth set with two kills by Sterkel and one by Jackson to go along with a service ace by Hannah Cantrill.
  • The Mountain Cats went on a 6-0 run midway through the set to take a 16-11 lead. Edinboro kept it close the rest of the way before
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Alicia Eldredge had her third-straight and eighth overall double-double against the Mountain Cats. She finished the match with 37 assists and 12 digs. Last time out, she nearly had a triple double against Bloomsburg thanks to 11 kills, 31 assists and seven digs.
  • Sally Sterkel led the offense for Edinboro. The freshman had 14 kills on a .435 attack percentage. She also helped lead the defense with four block assists.
  • Six different Fighting Scots had 5+ kills in the match led by Sterkel's 14. Cierah Jackson had eight and Hannah Cantrill had seven. Paige Morris and Megan Screptock each had five while Eldredge had five.
  • Beside Eldredge, Molly Breier also reached double-figure digs (11).
  • Edinboro led the Mountain Cats in assists (44-42) while both teams each had seven blocks.
NEXT FOR THE FIGHTING SCOTS
  • Edinboro will play its final road game of the regular season on Saturday, October 26 when they visit Shippensburg for a 1:00 pm on contest. The Raiders are currently 21-5 overall and 11-3 in the PSAC after defeating Slippery Rock on Friday night.
  • The Fighting Scots will then return home for the final three matches of the regular season beginning with a Tuesday contest against Slippery Rock on October 30 at 6:00 pm.
