Screptock Registers Double-Double in 3-2 Loss to Slippery Rock

  • The Short Story: The Edinboro volleyball team dropped a mid-week match at home to Slippery Rock, 3-2. Edinboro was led by senior Megan Screptock who recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs. Slippery Rock improves to 10-15 overall and 7-9 in the PSAC while Edinboro moves to 13-13 overall and 6-10 in the PSAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Slippery Rock jumped out to a 3-1 lead before Edinboro rallied and tied it up at 5-5, capped by a kill from Megan Screptock.
  • The Rock used a seven point run midway through the first set to take an 18-9 lead over the Fighting Scots. A kill from Cierah Jackson ended the run.
  • A kill from Paige Morris brought the score back to 20-14 and forced a Slippery Rock timeout. Edinboro came out of the time and got a kill from Screptock with the assist to Alicia Eldredge.
  • Slippery Rock took the final two points of the set and took a 1-0 match lead, winning the opening frame, 25-16.
  • The Fighting Scots used an early four point run to tie the second set up at 8-8, thanks to three Edinboro kills from Sally Sterkel, Eldredge, and Screptock.
  • With Edinboro trailing 17-14, the Fighting Scots went on a 10-5 run to jump to take a two point lead at 24-22. The run was set up by six-straight serves from Molly Breier.
  • A kill by Jackson got Edinboro the 25-23 set two win and tied the match up at 1-1.
  • Most of the third set was back and forth with both teams locked at 13-13.
  • Edinboro went on a 12-3 run to close out the set 25-16. A service ace by Breier closed out the set.
  • The Fighting Scots held a 7-2 lead in the fourth before The Rock slowly worked their way back and tied the set up at 13-13.
  • Slippery Rock used a 10-1 run to take a 23-14 lead late before The Rock closed out the set at 25-16, forcing a deciding fifth set.
  • With the score in the fifth set tied at 5-5, The Rock won the next seven points to stretch to lead Edinboro 11-6. The Fighting Scots pulled within four at 12-8 thanks to a pair of Screptock kills and a The Rock attack error.
  • A The Rock kill closed the match out with a 15-10 fifth set win for Slippery Rock.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Megan Screptock recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 12 kills and 12 digs. She also dished out a pair of assists and a service ace.
  • Alicia Eldredge led the offense for Edinboro tossing up 44 assists. It was the seventh time this season the freshman has assisted on 40+ kills.
  • Cierah Jackson had a team-high in kills with 15. The sophomore committed only five errors for a .263 attack percentage.
  • For the 18th time this season, Molly Breier led Edinboro with 20 digs. It was the fourth time she has reached the 20+ digs mark.
  • The Fighting Scots led Slippery Rock in digs (61-60) and blocks (7-6). Edinboro also led Slippery Rock in attack percentage in both the second and third sets, .139-.077 and .300-.000, respectively.
NEXT FOR THE FIGHTING SCOTS
  • Edinboro concludes the regular season on Friday, November 2 and Saturday, November 3 with local rivals Mercyhurst and Gannon. On Friday, the Lakers come to town before Gannon visits McComb on Saturday. Both matches are scheduled for 6:00 pm.
