Edinboro Wins Both Ends of PSAC Weekend With 3-1 Over Indiana(Pa.)

Eldredge, Screptock record double-doubles as Fighting Scots roll

  • The Short Story: The Edinboro volleyball team won both ends of a PSAC weekend after defeating Indiana(Pa.), 3-1. The Fighting Scots swept Clarion on Friday night, 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Edinboro and IUP kept things close early in the first set. Edinboro held a slim 12-11 lead midway through the set.
  • The Fighting Scots would hold IUP to four points the rest of the set while finishing the set on an 8-1, closing it out with a kill by Alicia Eldredge.
  • The Crimson Hawks led by as man as six midway through the second set before Edinboro would tie it up late, 22-22.
  • IUP would tie the match up with a 25-23 second set win.
  • The Crimson Hawks held a three-point lead at 22-19. Edinboro used a 6-1 run to finish the set, 25-23, including forcing three IUP attack errors.
  • Edinboro forced an IUP timeout after taking a 6-1 lead to start the fourth set and never looked back.
  • A kill by Megan Screptock sealed the 25-13 set three win and the match, 3-1

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Sally Sterkel led the offense for Edinboro with a match-high 15 kills. The freshman ranks second in the team with a 161 kills this season, behind only Cierah Jackson's 226.
  • Eldredge recorded her second-straight and fifth overall double-double of the season. The freshman dished out 39 assists and scooped up 14 digs.
  • Sterkel was one of three Fighting Scots in double-figure kills. Seniors Hannah Cantrill and Megan Screptock had 13 and 11 kills, respectively.
  • Screptock had her sixth double-double of the season against IUP. To go along with her kills, she added 13 digs. She leads the team this season with 205 digs.
  • Molly Breier led the Fighting Scots for the second match in a row with 18 digs, one of three Edinboro players in double-figures.

NEXT FOR THE FIGHTING SCOTS

  • Edinboro will hit the road next weekend when they travel up I-79 to face off against Gannon and Mercyhurst. The Fighting Scots will take on the Lady Knights on Friday, October 12 at 7:00 PM before returning to Erie the next day when they visit the Lakers on Saturday, October 13 for a 1:05 PM start time.
  • Gannon defeated California(Pa.), 3-0 and Seton Hill, 3-1 this weekend.
  • Mercyhurst dropped both ends of their PSAC weekend with losses to Seton Hill, 3-2, and California(Pa.) 3-0.
