Fighting Scots Open PSAC Action with 22-12 Loss at Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – In a contest that was originally scheduled to take place at Edinboro but moved to Millersville, the Edinboro women's lacrosse team dropped their PSAC opener, 22-12, to the Marauders. Edinboro is now 3-2 overall while Millersville remained undefeated at 5-0.

With almost two feet of snow blanketing Sox Harrison Stadium, the match was moved to Millersville's Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium on Wednesday. The Marauders took a 1-0 lead just 35 seconds into the match on a free position goal by Callie Cavanaugh.

The Marauders would score the first seven goals of the game, with five of the first six on free position shots. Edinboro would break the ice with a free position goal by Sophie DePalma with 7:13 left in the half. Just over a minute later the Marauders answered to make it 8-1. Millersville would hold a 10-4 lead at the half.

Edinboro's attack would come alive in the second half, scoring eight goals. The 12 goals were the most scored against Millersville this year. The Marauders had allowed just nine goals in their previous three contests.

Lindsey Brinkel and DePalma led Edinboro with four goals, a peice, Chido two. Hannah Fitzgerald had a goal , with Olivia Thomas credited with two assists.

Cavanaugh paced Millersville with six goals and a pair of assists, while Sabrina Fusco and Sarah Leverentz scored four goals apiece.

Millersville held a 42-27 advantage in shots. Freshman Candace McDole totaled eight saves for the Fighting Scots, with Kaitlyn Binotto playing the final 14 minutes and recording two saves. Shannon Davis had eight saves for the Marauders.
