McDole Turns in Another Strong Effort in Chilly Loss to Seton Hill

EDINBORO, Pa. – The calendar said it was the first day of spring, and a sunny sky would make you believe it, but the 35 degree temperature and thick mounds of snow lining Sox Harrison Stadium said otherwise. Thanks to a great job by members of the grounds crew, the Edinboro women's lacrosse team was able to host Seton Hill on Tuesday afternoon, but the Griffins came away with an 11-4 victory. Edinboro is now 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the PSAC, while Seton Hill improved to 2-4 and 1-1, respectively.

With leading scorer Anna Leva out with an injury, the Fighting Scots struggled to score against Seton Hill goalkeeper Hailey Jacobs. The Griffins scored the first four goals in the contest, two by Mackenzie Kilduff, before Stephanie Chido broke the ice (no pun intended) with Edinboro's first goal with 9:17 left in the period.

Seton Hill would add a goal for a 5-1 lead at the half, and the Griffins added the first four goals of the second half for an 8-1 advantage. Chido netted her second goal at the 11:25 mark to make it 9-2, but the Griffins scored the next two goals.

Edinboro would score two more goals to wrap up the scoring. Sophie DePalma scored her 18th goal with 4:12 to play, and with 25 seconds left Chido scored her third goal of the match and seventh of the season on a free position shot.

Despite the loss, freshman goalkeeper Candace McDole continued her strong play in goal, finishing with 19 saves, three shy of the school-record 22 she had a week ago. Jacobs had 13 saves for Seton Hill.

Four different players scored a pair of goals for Seton Hill – Brooke Lawrence, Katelyn Cressman, Olivia Caregin and Kilduff. The Griffins held a 36-21 advantage in shots.

The Fighting Scots are back in action this weekend, playing at East Stroudsburg. The contest had originally been scheduled for Saturday, March 24, but today was moved to Sunday, March 25 due to potential bad weather this week in eastern Pennsylvania.
