Edinboro Rally Falls Short in 14-8 Loss at Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Edinboro women's lacrosse team began a stretch of three straight road matches with a 14-8 loss at Bloomsburg on Saturday morning. The Fighting Scots have now lost five straight contests and are 3-6 overall and 0-5 in PSAC action. Bloomsburg improved to 6-2 and 4-1 in league play while winning for the fourth straight time.

Edinboro trailed 7-1 at the half, but the Fighting Scots played the Huskies in even terms in the second half. They would close to 8-5 as the attack came alive. Hannah Fitzgerald began the comeback with a goal at the 25:06 mark, but Bloomsburg scored at 23:07 thanks to Tracy Rusen to build the advantage back to six goals.

The Fighting Scots responded with three straight goals to pull to within 8-5 with 17:25 remaining. Maddie Mulcahy scored off a pass from Mary Uplinger, followed by Uplinger's second goal of the match. Stephanie Chido made it three straight goals with a free position score at 17:25.

The Huskies countered with a goal just 12 seconds later by Hannah Jaskuta. That began a string of three straight goals, two in just over a minute by Lindsey Coyle (13:22) and Kirsten Wozniak (12:17), to make it 13-6.

Edinboro closed one last time to five goals in the final minutes as Sidney Dobbins and Kandyce Graham scored on free position goals, the latter with 3:29 to play, making it 13-8. Bloomsburg added an insurance goal with 23 seconds remaining.

Bloomsburg scored the first six goals of the match, starting with the first of four goals by Rusen at 28:31. Neither team would score for over four minutes before the Huskies notched three goals in a span of two minutes.

Erin Boulger scored on a free position goal, with goals by Taylor Turner and Rusen making it 4-0. The two teams would go for over 13 minutes without a score before Rusen made it 5-0 with 9:00 remaining. Megan Smith's free position goal 43 seconds later boosted Bloomburg's lead to 6-0.

Edinboro would get on the board with 34 seconds to play on Uplinger's goal. The Huskies answered with just ten seconds left for a 7-1 halftime lead. Bloomsburg held a 17-6 lead in a first half that featured 36 turnovers.

Bloomsburg ended with a 41-21 advantage in shots. The two teams combined for 60 turnovers, 33 by Edinboro and 27 by the Huskies.

Uplinger led the Fighting Scots with two goals and an assist. Candace McDole finished with 15 saves for Edinboro, while Angela DiPasquale had nine saves for Bloomsburg.

The Fighting Scots return to action on Tuesday, April 3 at Indiana(Pa.).
