McDole Finishes with 21 Saves but Fighting Scots Fall 16-5 at No. 21 Indiana(Pa.)

INDIANA, Pa. – The Edinboro women's lacrosse team suffered its sixth straight loss on Tuesday afternoon, falling at 21st-ranked Indiana(Pa.) by a 16-5 score. The Fighting Scots were playing the second of three straight road contests, and are now 3-7 overall and 0-6 in the PSAC. IUP won its second straight contest and is now 6-2 and 3-2, respectively.

Freshman goalkeeper Candace McDole fell one save shy of tying her own school record for saves, finishing with 21. She boosted her season total to 149 saves, which is fourth in a season. Paige Skinner set the season record a year ago with 170.

IUP scored the first seven goals of the game, opening the scoring just 20 seconds into the contest when Ally Burrows scored the first of her three goals.

Edinboro would get on the scoreboard thanks to Mary Uplinger's fifth goal of the season with 7:16 remaining in the first half. After an IUP goal, Sophie DePalma notched her team-leading 22nd goal at the 4:40 mark to make it 8-2. That is how the first half ended.

The Crimson Hawks opened the second half with a pair of goals to boost their lead to 10-2 before Erin Gordon scored her third goal of the season, with an assist to DePalma. That brought the score to 10-3 with 22:45 remaining.

The teams would trade goals over the next eight minutes, with Stephanie Chido scoring twice for Edinboro. That brought the score to 12-5 with 14:46 left. IUP would end the match with four straight goals.

Three players led IUP with three goals apiece. Kelly Shields and Adriana Greco joined Burrows with three goals as eight different players scored. Lauren Pieknick finished with eight saves. IUP held a 46-16 advantage in shots.

The Fighting Scots will look to get back on the winning track on Saturday, April 7, wrapping up their three-game road trip at Kutztown. The match is set to start at 2 p.m.
