Edinboro Concludes Three-Match Road Trip with 18-9 Loss at Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Edinboro women's lacrosse team put a scare into Kutztown, but the Golden Bears responded with 11 of the next 12 goals as the Fighting Scots fell 18-9 in a PSAC match on Saturday. Edinboro has now lost seven straight matches for a 3-8 overall record and 0-7 in the PSAC. Kutztown improved to 6-5 and 3-3, respectively.

The Golden Bears scored the first five goals of the contest, including the first three in a span of 46 seconds. Madison Carlucci opened the scoring with a goal at 28:25 of the first half. Seventeen seconds later, Lauren Schmidt scored a free position goal, and Mikayla Bowman made it 3-0 at 27:39.

Edinboro would score back-to-back goals to make it 5-2. Lindsey Brinkel scored the first Boro goal at 19:44 off a pass from Sophie DePalma, followed by a frfee position goal by Sidney Dobbins.

After Kutztown scored to make it 6-2, the Fighting Scots scored two more goals to close the deficit to 6-4. Maddie Mulcahy accounted for the first off a feed from Mary Uplinger, and Olivia Thomas followed with her second goal of the season at the 10:29 mark, assisted by Stephanie Chido.

Unfortunately, Kutztown closed out the half with five straight goals to make it 11-4 at the intermission, then scored the first three of the second half and six of the first seven. Chido scored the Edinboro goal at 23:29. The Kutztown string made it 17-5 with just under 19 minutes remaining.

Edinboro would score four straight goals to pull to within. 17-9. Brinkel scored the first two to finish with three in the contest and 16 for the season. Hannah Fitzgerald and Desiree Doucette accounted for the last two goals, with DePalma assisting on the latter goal.

Kutztown had a 34-20 advantage in shots. Bowman had four goals and three assists, while Schmidt and Emily Smith Curtz had three goals and a pair of assists. Allison McCormick added three goals and an assist.

Candace McDole (33 minutes) and Kaitlyn Binotto combined in goal for Edinboro, with McDole recording five saves and Binotto three. Kutztown goalkeeper Haley Kline had seven saves.

Edinboro will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday, April 11 hosting Slippery Rock at 4 p.m. It is the first home match after three straight road contests.
