EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro women's volleyball team kicks off its 2018 season this weekend, August 24-25th, when they travel to Evansville, Ind. to the USI Double Tree Invitational hosted by Southern Indiana.
The Fighting Scots will face off against Ohio Dominican in the season opener on Friday at 10:00 a.m. They will then take on Minnesota State – Mankato and Kentucky State before facing the host Screaming Eagles to conclude the tournament.
In the season opener against the Panthers, members of the GMAC, the Fighting Scots will face a team that finished 5-26 in 2017 and returns four of its top five point scorers. Edinboro takes on Minnesota State – Mankato to finish up day one. The Mavericks finished the 2017 season 15-13 and 9-11 in the NSIC. MSU-Mankato came back and topped Gannon, 3-2, in an early season tournament.
The Fighting Scots start day two against Kentucky State, a team that won the SIAC Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament a year ago. The Thoroughbreds finished 2017 with an overall 26-13 record while going 16-4 in the SIAC. Concluding opening weekend action, Edinboro faces off against host Southern Indiana. The Screaming Eagles went 12-19 a year ago while finishing 5-14 in the GLVC.
Edinboro begins its 14th season under head coach
Missy Soboleski, who is the schools' all-time leader in wins with a 303-160 record. She has led the Fighting Scots to four straight 20-win seasons and ten overall. In addition, Edinboro has qualified for the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional nine times and the PSAC Tournament nine times during her tenure. She has 436 career victories, climbing into 25th in Division II in career victories among active coaches.
Soboleski returns sophomore
Cierah Jackson, who earned second team All-PSAC and honorable mention AVCA All-Atlantic Region honors a year ago. She led the team in kills with 420, while ranking fourth in total blocks (48) and fifth in block assists (47).
The Fighting Scots welcome back
Megan Screptock after an injury forced her to miss most of the 2017 campaign. A senior outside hitter, she appeared in just six matches, playing in 21 sets. Her previous two years she was among the team leaders in kills and digs. Screptock was the 2015 PSAC West Freshman of the Year.
Edinboro returns home next weekend then they host the 2018 Rebich Investments Invitational on August 31 and September 1. The Fighting Scots welcome in Davis & Elkins, Glenville State and Lock Haven. Edinboro will start off with a non-conference match against Lock Haven on Friday, August 31 at 7:00 p.m.
