EDINBORO, Pa. - The Edinboro women's soccer team opened the season with a 1-0 win at Notre Dame (Ohio) on Thursday. The Fighting Scots improve to 1-0 on the year, while the Falcons fall to 0-1.
Edinboro is now 5-0 all-time against Notre Dame (Ohio). In addition, the Scots ended the Falcons nine-game home winning streak that dates back to 2016.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams had opportunities to score throughout the first 20 minutes. However, Edinboro would go into halftime with a 16-3 advantage in shots, including a 6-2 lead in shots on goal.
- The Fighting Scots took control of the match in the 54th minute. Junior Danielle Chatten connected on a pass from Rebecca Manns at 53:02 for the lone goal in the game.
- Notre Dame doubled their shots total in the second half with six. But they were called offside on six occasions in the frame.
GAME NOTES
- Freshman Anna Voelker picked up her first career win and shutout. She faced nine shots with six of those on goal.
- Edinboro ended the contest with a 27-9 lead in shots. In terms of shots on goal, the Fighting Scots had a 10-6 advantage.
UP NEXT
- Edinboro returns to Sox Harrison Stadium for their home and PSAC opener on Saturday, September 1 against Shippensburg. The contest is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
- The Fighting Scots defeated the Raiders 3-2 last season. Edinboro, who never led over the first 85 minutes, scored two goals in the final five minutes to pull the come-from-behind victory.
