  • Records:  Edinboro (3-0), East Stroudsburg (1-2)
  • Location:  Edinboro, Pa. – Sox Harrison Stadium

The Fighting Scots improved to 3-0 with the decisive PSAC crossover victory, while the Warriors are now 1-2. Gregory accounted for Edinboro's first score on a flea-flicker, completing a 25-yard pass to quarterback Andrew Tomko. The junior wide receiver would later add touchdown catches of 59 and 12 yards. Fletcher scored on runs of 1, 3, and 6 yards and has now opened the season with three straight 100-yard games. Edinboro led 35-3 at the half and withstood three ESU scores in the fourth quarter.

BREAKING DOWN THE GAME
  • After forcing a punt, Edinboro started with good field position thanks to a 24-yard punt return by Ta'Nauz Gregory. Six plays later they were in the end zone, with Walter Fletcher not touching the ball. Andrew Tomko completed 3-of-4 passes and ran once to advance the ball to the 25. The redshirt sophomore quarterback then threw a lateral to the left side to Gregory, who threw back across the field to a wide-open Tomko. The offensive line escorted Tomko for the 25-yard TD reception less than four minutes into the game.
  • East Stroudsburg would answer with a 34-yard field goal by Jordan Walters midway through the first quarter. Edinboro would follow with the next 35 points through the third quarter.
  • Fletcher accounted for Edinboro's first three scores in that stretch. The Fighting Scots drove 75 yards in 8 plays following the ESU field goal. Tomko completed all five of his attempts in the drive for 65 yards, taking the ball down to the ESU 3. Fletcher went into the end zone untouched off left guard with 3:21 left in the first quarter for a 14-3 lead.
  • The first of six ESU turnovers had Edinboro back in business on their next series. Billy DePaul had the first of his two interceptions and returned it 13 yards. A Tomko to A.J. Turner 30-yard completion put the Fighting Scots inside the ten, and on 2nd-and-goal, Fletcher again scored off left guard to make it 21-3 with 12:28 left in the second quarter.
  • DeAndre Dowdell would register his first career interception on the next ESU series, but Edinboro had a three-and-out. ESU quarterback ben Moser threw his third interception of the game on the Warrior's next possession. On a hot and humid day, the ball slipped out of his hands as he was throwing and noseguard Myles Turner ended up with it, rumbling 10 more yards to the ESU 35. Fletcher's 23-yard run off a sweet cut put the Fighting Scots in the red zone, and the redshirt junior tailback found the end zone for the third time in the game and sixth time this season on six-yard run off right tackle. That noosted Edinboro's lead to 28-3 with 2:19 to play in the half.
  • Moser's fourth interception of the first half allowed Edinboro to boost the lead to 35-3 at the half. DePaul did the honors at the Edinboro 10. The Fighting Scots needed four plays to travel 90 yards. The last 59 yards came on a long pass from Tomko to Gregory, as he was wide open down the left sideline.
  • Edinboro built the lead to 42-3 on the ir second series of the second half, driving 89 yards on seven plays for the lone score of the period. A short punt gave the Scots the ball at the ESU 45. Tomko and Gregory combined for the third time on the afternoon, with Gregory catching a12-yard TD pass. Edinboro led 42-3 with 8:32 left in the third period.
  • ESU made things interesting in the fourth quarter with three touchdown passes by Moser. The first covered 9 yards to R.J. Sarajian to cap an 89-yard march with 13:28 left in the game. Moser then combined with Jylil Reeder for scoring plays of 33 and 57 yards. The second came with just 2:14 remaining to close the gap to 42-24.
  • Edinboro tacked on an insurance score just 20 seconds later. Backup running back Kyle Galyk burst the line and outran several ESU defenders for a 77-yard TD run. Jake Monroe booted the last of his seven PATs for the final score of 49-24.
GAME NOTES
  • This was the first meeting between the two teams since 2015, when East Stroudsburg handed Edinboro a 56-12 defeat. ESU had won the last three meetings.
  • Offensive coordinator Chris Limbach took the wraps of the playbook. That was clearly evident in the first series, when Andrew Tomko completed three short toss-sweep passes. He then threw a lateral to Ta'Nauz Gregory, rolled to his right and hauled in a pass which resulted in a 25-yard TD pass as he was escorted by the Edinboro offensive line. It was Gregory's second career touchdown pass. He threw one a year ago to Jake Sisson.
  • What a difference a week makes. Andrew Tomko completed just 5-of-18 passes for 101 yards at Bloomsburg last week. This week the redshirt sophomore showed why he is so highly-regarded. He completed 22-of-35 passes for 282 yards with 2 TDs and 2 INTs.  Tomko also punted twice for a 56.5 yard average, including a 69-yarder, tied for the sixth-longest punt in school history.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Edinboro finished with a season-high 569 yards, with 262 yards rushing and 307 yards passing. The Fighting Scots averaged 7.3 yards per rush. East Stroudsburg totaled 392 yards, most of that through the air (311 yards). After rushing for 239 yards and 6 TDs a week ago against Seton Hill, ESU tailback Jaymar Anderson was held to 68 yards on 21 carries. Ben Moser completed 17-of-39 passes for 311 yards with 3 TDs, but 5 INTs. He added 36 yards rushing. His favorite target was Jylil Reeder, who caught 6 passes for 176 yards and 2 TDs
  • Turnovers have been a BIG part of Edinboro's success to start the season. The Fighting Scots forced six at Lake Erie, four last week at Bloomsburg, and came up with six more today against East Stroudsburg. That included five interceptions, two by Billy DePaul. The turnovers led to three touchdowns. The defense also limited ESU to 2 third-down conversions in 13 attempts.
  • Kyle Galyk and Walter Fletcher both rushed for over 100 yards. It marked the first time since the last game of the 2017 season at Cheyney, or four games ago, that Edinboro had two rushers with 100 yards. Galyk came off the bench to rush for a career-high 132 yards on 12 carries, including a 77-yard TD run. Fletcher added 110 yards and 3 TDs on 20 carries for his 13th career 100-yard game and third in a row in 2018.  Galyk added 3 receptions for 45 yards, while Fletcher had 3 catches for 34 yards.
  • Andrew Tomko turned in his second strong showing in three games. The redshirt sophomore quarterback completed 22-of-35 passes for 282 yards with 2 TDs and 2 INTs. He added a 25-yard touchdown reception on a flea flicker, and had 20 yards rushing.
  • Ta'Nauz Gregory continued to register big plays. The junior wide receiver posted career-highs with 11 catches for 162 yards, his seventh career 100-yard game. That included a 59-yard TD reception, his fourth scoring play this year of 50-or-more yards and his 11th career play of 50-or-more yards. He caught touchdown passes of 60 and 57 yards at Lake Erie, and added a 90-yard kickoff return at Bloomsburg. He also accounted for the first touchdown of the day when he tossed a 25-yard TD pass to quarterback Andrew Tomko.
  • A week ago Trey Hall led the Fighting Scots with 10 tackles. He was the top tackler this week, as well, finishing with 8. Strong safety Brandon Anderson added 6 stops. Defensive tackle Derek Dorr had 4 stops, including a pair of sacks.
  • Edinboro intercepted 5 passes. Billy DePaul led the way with a pair of pickoffs, with Zuril Hendrick, DeAndre Dowdell, and Myles Turner adding one apiece. Dowdell and Turner had their first career interceptions.
THE RECORD BOOK
  • Walter Fletcher moved up another spot in the career rushing chart after rushing for 110 yards on 20 carries. He now has 2,648 yards, moving past Lester Frye into fifth place. Fletcher has had three straight 100-yard games to start the season and his four in a row dating back to last year. It was his 13th career 100-yard game. Fletcher scored 3 touchdowns against East Stroudsburg and now ranks fifth with 30 TDs. He also moved into fourth place in career rushing attempts with 519.
  • After leading Division II in interceptions with 9 last year, Zuril Hendrick has intercepted a pass in each of the last two games. That gives the senior cornerback 16 for his career, tying him for third place in career interceptions with Branden Williams.  Chris Avery holds the record with 20 interceptions.
