Fighting Scots Start Four-Game Road Trip With 2-1 Loss at Millersville

EDINBORO, Pa.Rebecca Manns scored her first goal of the season on Saturday, but Edinboro suffered a 2-1 loss at Millersville. The Fighting Scots are now 2-4-0 overall and 1-4-0 in the PSAC, while the Marauders improved to 5-1-0 on the year and 4-1-0 in conference play.

HOW THEY SCORED
  • Millersville's Kay Liebl deflected a shot into the back of the net from Lauren Hoffman's free kick in the 14th minute.
  • Just over seven minutes later, Rebecca Manns tied the game at 1-1, scoring her first goal of the year off a pass from Brittnie Spithaler.
  • The tie would be broken by Alexis Spencer in the 51st minute. Liebl was credited with the assist.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
  • Millersville had a 21-6 advantage in shots and led 10-2 in shots on goal.
  • The Fighting Scots were held to zero corner kicks, while the Marauders had seven attempts.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Anna Voelker had eight saves for the Fighting Scots, including five in the second half. Millersville goalkeeper Katia Mujica started the contest and and made one save. She was in goal for the first 31:26, before Erin Heimbach came in and played the final 58:34.

  • Rebecca Manns, a redshirt sophomore forward recorded her first goal of the season against Millersville. A year ago, she scored six goals for third on the team. She currently is second on the team with five points. Last season, she finished the year with 18 points, which was good for second on the team and seventh in the PSAC.
  • Brittnie Spithaler recorded her first career assist against the Marauders.
  • Millersville entered the week ranked third in the United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region poll.
  • Kay Liebl leads the PSAC in goals (7) and points (17).

NEXT FOR THE FIGHTING SCOTS
  • Edinboro continues its four-game road trip on Tuesday, September 18, traveling to Slippery Rock. The contest is slated for a 4:00 p.m. start.
  • Slippery Rock heads into the weekend with a 4-1-0 overall record and 3-1-0 mark in the PSAC. The Rock return home after a two-game road trip, following a non-conference contest at Walsh on Saturday. Slippery Rock currently ranks 8th in the latest United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region poll.
