Fighting Scots Fall at Slippery Rock, 1-0

THE RUNDOWN 

  • Final Score: Slippery Rock 1, Edinboro 0 
  • Records: Slippery Rock (6-1-0, 4-1-0 PSAC) | Edinboro (2-5-0, 1-5-0 PSAC) 
  • Location: Slippery Rock, Pa. – James Egli Field 
  • The Short Story: The Edinboro women's soccer team outshot Slippery Rock 13-11 in the match and 11-6 in the second half. But the Fighting Scots were unable to find the back of the net and fell to the Rock, 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • After a scoreless first half, The Rock took a 1-0 lead at 56:37. Senior Skye Kramer found Kaitlyn Barackman, who has able to chip in a goal onto the right side of the net.
  • Edinboro goalkeeper Anna Volker prevented Megan Sikora from scoring in the 51st minute, as she made a leaping grab and stopped Sikora's header in its tracks.
  • The Fighting Scots had multiple chances to score in the second half. They had two chances to score in the 72nd minute, with both arguably being their best opportunities in the contest. Jenna Derbis fired a shot from 25-yards out at 71:15, but that hit the cross bar. Nine seconds later, Jessica Frank collected the rebound in the box and fired a shot that hit the right post.
  • Mary Sinan also had a shot on goal in the 80th minute that nearly tied the game, but it hit the crossbar.


GAME NOTES 

  • After being held to two shots in the first half, Edinboro outshot Slippery Rock in the second half 11-6. The Fighting Scots ended the game with a 13-11 shot advantage.
  • Both teams had five shots on goal.
  • The Fighting Scots had five corner kicks, while The Rock attempted one.
  • Anna Voelker made four saves and Kylie Downs had five.
  • Edinboro had previously not been shutout this season. The Fighting Scots had scored in 13 straight games.
  • Marissa Shields received a yellow card at 70:05.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE 
  • The Fighting Scots completed their second game of a four-game road trip on Tuesday. Edinboro will return to Sox Harrison Stadium on Saturday, September 29 against No. 5 West Chester on ESPN3.
  • This is Edinboro's first loss at Slippery Rock since 2009.
  • Edinboro trails Slippery Rock in the all-time series 4-20-8.
  • Slippery Rock is currently ranked fifth in the latest United Soccer Coaches' Atlantic Region rankings. The Rock were picked to finish fifth in the PSAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
  • SRU goalkeeper Kylie Downs has allowed only two goals in five games this season.

UP NEXT
  • The Fighting Scots are back in action on Saturday, September 22, as they travel east to play 14th ranked Kutztown.
  • The Golden Bears were picked to finish third in the PSAC Preseason Coaches Poll. They are currently in a five-way tie atop the conference standings with a 4-1-0 PSAC record and 12 points. Additionally, they are tied with Slippery Rock for the best overall record in the PSAC at 6-1-0.
  • Kutztown is currently ranked 14th in the latest United Soccer Coaches National Poll and are second in the Atlantic Region rankings.
  • The Golden Bears will head into the contest well rested, as they are not scheduled to play anyone prior to Saturday's match. Kutztown last played on September 15 with a 1-0 win over California (Pa.).
  • Edinboro leads Kutztown 11-10-1 in the all-time series.
