THE RUNDOWN
  • Final Score: #12 West Chester 1, Edinboro 0
  • Records: Edinboro 2-8-0, 1-8-0 PSAC  l  West Chester 7-1-1, 6-1-1
  • Location: Edinboro, Pa. – Sox Harrison Stadium
  • Box Score
  • The Short Story: No. 12 West Chester held off a young and upset-minded Edinboro squad on Homecoming, scoring in the final minutes.  WCU's Kendall Rich scored her fifth goal of the season at 86:24 for the lone goal in the match. The 12th-ranked Golden Rams then held off scoring attempts by the Fighting Scots in the final minutes to escape with the win. The contest was shown live on ESPN 3 and began at 9:35 a.m.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • West Chester scored the lone goal of the contest in the 87th minute. Linzi Wolfe's pass from the left wing found Kendall Rich in front of the net. Rich, West Chester's leading scorer, just slid the ball past Edinboro goalkeeper Anna Voelker into the far left corner of the net from ten yards out for her fifth goal of the season.     .
GAME NOTES
  • West Chester ended with an 18-11 advantage in shots. After being outshot by the Golden Rams, 10-3, over the first 45 minutes, Edinboro and West Chester each finished with 8 shots in the second half.
  • Edinboro goalkeeper Anna Voelker made 7 saves, as did West Chester's McKenna Mullin.
  • This was Edinboro's first home match since September 12. The Fighting Scots played their last four matches on the road. They are now in a stretch of three straight home matches.
  • A young Edinboro squad with three freshmen and four sophomores in the lineup grew as the contest went on. WCU controlled the play for most of the first half, with freshman goalkeeper Anna Voelker making several solid saves.
  • The second half was a different story, as Edinboro began to control the play as the match went on. The Fighting Scots had no fewer than six opportunities to put the ball in the net over the final half of the second half, but could not do so. It began in the 68th minute as Ellie Franis's shot on a breakaway was deflected by WCU goalkeeper McKenna Mullin. Less than a minute later, Sidney Dobbins' long shot was tipped by Mullin and just went over the post.
  • In the 72nd minute, Mary Sinan shot from 15 yards out was blocked by a defender near the goal.
  • After West Chester took the 1-0 lead, the Fighting Scots had three more opportunities go by the wayside. Danielle Chatten's long shot from 30 yards out went just over the post with just over two minutes remaining. She would fire again with 1:20 to play, but Mullin gathered in the save. Finally, with 40 seconds to play following a scramble in front of the net, Rebecca Mann's close shot with the goalie out of position was saved by a WCU defender.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • West Chester now holds a 13-4-2 lead in the all-time series.
  • Last year's meeting ended with WCU winning 2-0.
