Fighting Scots Fall on the Road to Fifth-Ranked IUP

  • The Short Story: In a rematch of last year's PSAC Quarterfinals, a young and short-handed Edinboro team fell at fifth-ranked Indiana(Pa.), 102-53. The contest was originally scheduled for Saturday but postponed until Monday due to the weekend's winter storm. The Crimson Hawks left little doubt to the outcome, grabbing a 65-25 lead at the half while avenging their loss in the PSAC Tournament. Turnovers hampered the Fighting Scots, as IUP held a 35-8 advantage in points off turnovers.          
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER BY THE NUMBERS  
  • Edinboro ended the day shooting 27.9 percent from the floor (17-of-61), making 7-of-29 3-pointers. The Fighting Scots went 12-of-17 at the free throw line. After shooting 57 percent in the first half, IUP would end the day at 49.4 percent (38-of-77), with 10 3-pointers in 30 attempts, and made 16-of-21 3-pointers.    
  • The Crimson Hawks held a 52-36 advantage on the glass. Edinboro committed 21 turnovers compared to nine for IUP. That led to a 35-8 advantage in points off turnovers for IUP.     .  
  • Trey Staunch led Edinboro with 17 points, adding eight rebounds. The 6'4", 280 lb. forward also stepped outside to make his first career 3-pointer.    
  • Jaryn Simpson was also in double figures with 14 points, falling a rebound shy of a double double while leading the Fighting Scots with nine boards.    
  • A balanced IUP attack saw seven players score in double figures, led by Malik Miller with 18 points. Dante Lombardi had 16 points and 10 assists, while Jacobo Diaz also had a double double with 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.     
NEXT FOR THE FIGHTING SCOTS
  • Edinboro will look to snap a seven-game losing streak while playing on the road for the fifth time in the last six games. The Fighting Scots play at Clarion on Wednesday, January 23 at 7:30 p.m.
