Ciara Rosten Reaches 1,000 Career Points in 92-45 Victory at Clarion

The Short Story:  Ciara Rosten became the 34th Fighting Scot to score 1,000 points in a career on Wednesday. Edinboro never trailed in the contest, as the Fighting Scots scored the first nine points of the game. Edinboro has posted 90+ points in six games this season. Clarion entered the contest ranked third in the PSAC in scoring defense at 60.6 points per game. The 92 points allowed is by Clarion is the most this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Edinboro came out of the gates scoring the first nine points in the contest. Jontay Walton drilled a 3-pointer, Michaela Barnes converted a jumper, Michelle Jahn made two free throws, and Ciara Rosten capped the run with a jumper.
  • After 10 minutes, the Fighting Scots led 23-10. They shot 56.3 percent (9-of-16), while holding Clarion to 25.0 percent (3-of-12). The Golden Eagles rank third in scoring defense in the PSAC, allowing 60.6 ppg.
  •  Another scoring run was in Edinboro's sights in the second quarter, as the Scots outscored the Golden Eagles 11-2 early in the frame. Walton made a jumper, followed by a Bridgette Shaffer 3-pointer. Clarion's Yndiah Bobo scored on a layup, but Jahn and Shaffer answered with back-to-back baskets from behind the arc. Allison Thompson laid in a basket and made two free throws. That was followed up by jumpers from Rosten and Bobo. A pair of Rosten free throws and a Barnes layup gave Edinboro a 46-21 advantage.
  • With 52 seconds left in the period, Rosten scored the final points of the run with her eighth point of the game on a jumper. The jumper would be the 1,000th point of her career. She becomes the 34th Fighting Scot to reach this mark in program history.
  • Edinboro went into halftime with a 48-21 advantage. The Fighting Scots led by as much as 49 points in the fourth quarter.
BY THE NUMBERS 
  • Ciara Rosten joined Michelle Jahn and Jontay Walton in the 1,000-point club. Rosten scored her 1,000th career point with 52 seconds left in the second quarter on a jumper. With Rosten reaching the plateau, the Fighting Scots set program history, as no team has had three active players playing with 1,000-or-more points at the same time. In addition, with Walton scoring her 1,000th point in Edinboro's win over California(Pa.) on January 2, they become the ninth duo to reach 1,000 points in the same campaign.
  • Rosten finished the game with a double-double, scoring 15 points and collecting 10 rebounds. She also blocked three shots. The redshirt senior forward ranks 32nd in program history with 1,007 points.
  • Walton paced the Fighting Scots with a game-high 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including 4-of-6 3-pointers. She also grabbed six boards. The 5'6" guard rose to 26th in career scoring with 1,113 points.
  • Michaela Barnes was the final Fighting Scot to score in double figures. She contributed 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting and had a team-high four assists. In two-plus season, Barnes has scored 963 points.
  • Jahn climbed one spot to 17th the all-time scoring list. With seven points at Clarion, she has scored 1,269 points.
  • Allison Thompson came off the bench to grab seven boards, while Bridgette Shaffer and Sarah Fischer each brought down six rebounds. Shaffer also drilled three 3-pointers. 
  • Edinboro shot 51.5 percent overall (35-of-68), including 11-of-22 3-pointers and was 11-of-11 at the free throw line. Clarion was held to 28.1 percent from the floor (18-of-64), 2-of-13 from long range, and 7-of-11 at the charity stripe.
  • The Fighting Scots had a 48-33 advantage on the glass and led 40-26 in points in the paint.
  • Clarion's Yndiah Bobo was the only Golden Eagle in double figures. She led the team with 16 points and seven rebounds.
  • Edinboro is ranked ninth in the D2SIDA Atlantic Region poll.
