THE GAME FACTS
  • Score:  Edinboro 69, Seton Hill 64
  • Records:  Edinboro (9-2, 5-1 PSAC West), Seton Hill (9-4, 3-3 PSAC West)

  • The Short Story:  After trailing for much of the game, Edinboro used a big fourth quarter to claim its sixth straight win, a 69-64 triumph at Seton Hill. In a game featuring two of the highest scoring teams in the PSAC, defense was the name of the game for three quarters, with both teams shooting under 30 percent for the first 30 minutes. The Fighting Scots caught fire in the fourth quarter, however, making 10-of-14 shots while outscoring the Griffins, 30-20. A 13-3 run gave the Fighting Scots the lead for good, and they would hold Seton Hill scoreless for almost four minutes. After scoring 21 points in each of the last three games, Michaela Barnes led four players in double figures with 21 points. Ciara Rosten added her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 15 rebounds, including 10 points in the decisive fourth quarter. Jontay Walton had 13 points and Michelle Jahn finished with 12. The game was the start of three straight contests on the road for Edinboro.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Fighting Scots found themselves trailing 18-8 after just one period as they made just 3-of-20 shots. In fact, Michaela Barnes made both of her field goal attempts, and the rest of the team was just 1-for-18. Edinboro led 4-2, but Seton Hill ran off the next 11 points to go on top, 13-4. Megan Marecic contributed seven of those points. The Griffins weren't much better in the shooting department, making 6-of-20 shots, but they held a 20-11 advantage on the glass in the first ten minutes.
  • While the shooting improved in the second quarter, the Griffins would hold a 34-26 lead at the half thanks to an advantage at the free throw line. Edinboro made 8-of-14 shots in the second quarter, but that still left the Fighting Scots at 11-of-34 in the opening half. Seton Hill was actually worse at 11-of-36, but the Griffins made 8-of-9 free throws while Edinboro was 2-of-4 at the charity stripe.
  • Edinboro closed the gap in the second quarter to three points at 23-20 on Ciara Rosten's jumper with just under five minutes left in the quarter. Seton Hill would gradually pull away to an eight-point lead at intermission. Barnes contributed half of Edinboro's points in the opening half, as the junior guard had 13 points, making 6-of-9 field goals. Rosten pulled down nine rebounds, but Seton Hill still held a 27-21 advantage in the rebounding department. Marecic led the Griffins with 12 points, with Cheyenne Trest adding seven.
  • The third quarter once again featured poor shooting, and Seton Hill maintained a safe cushion until late in the quarter. The Griffins led 42-31 with 4:13 to play, and Marecic's jumper gave the Griffins a 10-point lead at 44-34 with 2:52 remaining.
  • Edinboro would hold the Griffins scoreless the rest of the quarter and closed the period with the final five points. Michelle Jahn converted a pair of free throws, and when Jontay Walton drained a 3-pointer with 41 seconds remaining, Edinboro had pulled to within 44-39 after three quarters. Edinboro was shooting 27.3 percent (15-of-55) after 30 minutes, while Seton Hill was at 26.3 percent (15-of-57).
  • The Fighting Scots' offense finally came alive in the fourth quarter, using a 13-3 run to take the lead for good. They would hold the Griffins scoreless for over four minutes while grabbing the lead for good.
  • Seton Hill led 51-48, but a Rosten layup and Jahn 3-pointer gave Edinboro its first lead since 4-2 at 53-51 with 5:35 to play. Marecic's three gave the lead back to the Griffins at 54-53, but Edinboro scored the next eight points to take control of the contest.
  • Walton's three at 4:52 gave the lead back to Edinboro for good at 56-54. After a Seton Hill miss, Rosten scored on a jumper, and a Griffins' turnover led to a Barnes' jumper and a 60-54 lead. Rosten made one-of-two free throws with 2:23 to play for a 61-54 advantage, capping the 13-3 run. Courtney Cecere ended the run with a jumper for Seton Hill at the 1:20 mark, but the Griffins would get no closer than five points the rest of the way.
