  • Score:  Kutztown 72, Edinboro 70
  • Records:  Edinboro (9-3, 5-2 PSAC West), Kutztown (7-8, 5-3 PSAC East)
  • Location:  Kutztown, Pa. – Keystone Arena
  • The Short Story:  With nearly four minutes left in the contest, Edinboro led 63-61. From that point forward, neither team led by more than three points. Following an Edinboro timeout with eight seconds left, Ciara Rosten found herself wide open on an inbounds play. She laid in the basket and caused the tenth tie in the game at 69-69. However, Gabi Wright converted a three-point play with one second remaining to give the Golden Bears a 72-69 advantage. Following another Edinboro timeout, Michelle Jahn was fouled and sent to the line. She made her first throw and intentionally missed the second. The Fighting Scots collected the rebound, but time wasn't in Edinboro's favor, and the Fighting Scots' six-game winning streak came to an end.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Edinboro led 23-16 after the first quarter, thanks to a 10-3 run over the final 3:30. Ciara Rosen started the run with a layup. Michaela Barnes connected on a jumper, followed by a 3-pointer from Michelle Jahn. Rosten scored another layup before Kutztown's Karen Lapkiewicz made a 3-pointer. Barnes scored the final point of the period on a free throw.
  • After the Fighting Scot took their biggest lead of the opening half at 27-18, the Golden Bears embarked on a 12-5 run spanning over five minutes. That cut Edinboro's lead to one point at 30-29. A Jontay Walton 3-pointer and Jahn layup cushioned the lead back to seven points at 37-30 and Edinboro went into halftime up 39-35.
  • Kutztown's Gabi Wright was responsible for 11 of Kutztown's 19 second-quarter points.
  • Both teams struggled to make their shots in the third quarter, as Edinboro missed their first 12 shots of the second half. However, the Scots finished the stanza 2-of-15 overall thanks to a 7-0 run over the last two minutes of the stanza. Kutztown wasn't any better shooting in the period, making 4-of-15 field goals. Free throws were the difference for Edinboro in the quarter, as the Fighting Scots shot 8-of-10 at the foul line, compared to the Golden Bears making 4-of-5 free throws.
  • Edinboro's run extended to the fourth quarter, as a Ciara Rosten layup and Michelle Jahn 3-pointer gave Edinboro a nine-point lead at 56-47 with 9:29 remaining in the contest. However, a quick 7-0 run by Kutztown spanning nearly 30 seconds cut the deficit to three points.
  • From the 3:51 mark to the final buzzer, it was a one-possession contest. After Bridgette Shaffer's jumper made a jumper with 1:09 and gave Edinboro a 69-67 advantage, the Golden Bears scored two consecutive baskets by Taylor Thames. Ciara Rosten was able to knot the game at 69-69 with eight seconds left, as she was left unguarded on an inbound play. However, Gabi Wright broke the tie, converting a traditional three-point play with one second left. After Edinboro called a timeout, Michelle Jahn was intentionally fouled and sent to the foul line. She made the first throw and intentionally missed the second, giving Edinboro a shot to grab the rebound and either tie or win the game. Edinboro was able to grab the loose ball, but their no time left to get a shot up.
