Edinboro Celebrates Senior Night with 3-0 Win over Cal U

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro women's soccer team celebrated Senior Night by completing the regular season sweep of Cal U on Saturday night. The Fighting Scots continued their incredible hot spell with a 3-0 shutout of the Vulcans after prevailing earlier in the year 4-0.

The Fighting Scots improved to 9-2-2 overall and 9-0-2 in the PSAC West, remaining just a step behind first place Slippery Rock in the division race. SRU improved to 10-1-0 in the PSAC West with a win at Seton Hill on Saturday. Cal U is now 3-9-0 overall and 2-9-0 in the conference.

Edinboro and Cal battled without a score for most of the first half before the Fighting Scots broke the ice with a goal at 39:45. Junior Leah Czechowski scored her second goal of the season, with a shot from the left side of the box into the right corner of the goal after taking a pass from Rebecca Manns.

The lead would grow to 2-0 courtesy of Jessica Frank at 64:58. Frank, a sophomore, scored her fourth goal of the season, with the assist going to Bayer. She scored in close off a rebound of Bayer's shot into the right side of the net.

Edinboro added an insurance goal at 83:20 as Danielle Chatten, one of three seniors honored before the match, notched her fifth goal of the season. She deposited a turnover into the right corner from 15 yards out.

Chatten scored her 22nd career goal, which ranks 11th all-time at Edinboro. She is 12th in career points with 59. In addition to Chatten, fellow seniors Aubrey Billittier and Sidney Dobbins were recognized prior to the match.

Edinboro held an 18-4 advantage in shots. Sophomore Anna Voelker recorded her fifth shutout of the season, and the eighth of her career. She is tied for sixth in shutouts in a season and shutouts in a career. She had two saves.

Edinboro is back in action on Wednesday, October 23, hosting Clarion. That match gets underway at 6 p.m.
