Chatten's Goal in Overtime Snaps Slippery Rock's Six-Game Winning Streak

EDINBORO, Pa. – Danielle Chatten scored in the fourth minute of overtime to lead Edinboro to a 2-1 win in overtime over Slippery Rock on Wednesday night at Sox Harrison Stadium. The win snapped Slippery Rock's six-game winning streak, while the Fighting Scots are now 5-0-1 in their last six matches. SRU came in leading the PSAC West and was picked as the preseason favorite.

Edinboro improved to 5-2-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the PSAC West after opening the season with a pair of losses. SRU is now 7-2-0 and 6-1-0 in league play. The Fighting Scots pulled to with two points of first place in the Western Division after being picked to finish sixth in the coaches' preseason poll.

The two teams battled to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation. Edinboro had the only two shots in overtime. The first was by Chatten and sailed high two minutes into the 10-minute period. The second was also by Chatten, only this time the senior forward took a pass from Brittnie Spithaler and drilled the ball into the right corner of the net for the winning goal at 93:20.

The goal set off a wild celebration for the Fighting Scots while giving Edinboro its first win over The Rock since 2016.
The goal was Chatten's second of the season and the 19th of her career, moving her into a tie for 11th in career goals. She also moved into 12th place in career points with 52.

Following a scoreless first half, Edinboro took a 1-0 lead on Spithaler's fourth goal of the season just 35 seconds into the second half. The ball bounced off a defender and she hit it with her heel into the net.

Slippery Rock would knot the score at 1-1 at 75:15, as Rachel Edge scored her seventh goal of the season, assisted by Shannon McIntyre off a free kick.

Edinboro held an 18-8 advantage in shots. Anna Voelker picked up the win in goal as the sophomore recorded four saves. SRU's Emma Yoder totaled nine saves.
