Edinboro Sees Incredible String of Non-Losses Come to an End in 1-0 Loss at Gannon, but Clinches PSAC Tournament Berth

ERIE, Pa. – On a day when Edinboro clinched a berth in the PSAC Tournament, the Fighting Scots finally saw their incredible string of 12 straight matches without a loss come to an end. Gannon scored a goal in the 83rd minute to record a 1-0 win over Edinboro, the first loss for the Fighting Scots since September 7.

Edinboro is now 9-3-3 overall and 9-1-3 in the PSAC West. The Fighting Scots had won nine matches and tied three times over their previous 12 contests. Gannon remained alive for a spot in the PSAC postseason while improving to 7-6-2 overall and 6-6-2 in league play.

Despite the setback, Edinboro clinched its first berth in the PSAC Tournament since 2016 when Seton Hill lost to Mercyhurst earlier in the day. The Fighting Scots now play first place Slippery Rock on Saturday, November 2. They need a tie in their final three contests to clinch second place in the division.

Edinboro and Gannon played a 2-2 tie in two overtimes in their first meeting. The last goal was scored in the final minute of the first half. They battled for 65 minutes without a goal to end that contest, then played 82 scoreless minutes on Wednesday night before the Lady Knights found the back of the net.

Leah Bermudez accounted for the lone of the night as she headed a corner kick from Megan McCartney while just yards in front of the goal at the 82:25 mark. It marked the first time Edinboro had trailed in eight matches, dating back to the first meeting with Gannon on September 28.
Edinboro had actually appeared to take a 1-0 lead early in the second period, with Brittany Hurey knocking in a rebound of a miss. The Fighting Scots had a pair of shots fail and were called for offsides to negate the apparent goal.

Gannon held a slight 13-12 edge in shots, but had all five corner kicks in the match. Anna Voelker finished with six saves in goal, while Gannon's Kennedy Solymosi had six saves, as well.
