Chatten, Manns Score as Edinboro Suffers Last-Minute 3-2 Loss at Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Edinboro women's soccer team suffered a heart-breaking 3-2 loss at Slippery Rock in a battle of the top two teams in the PSAC West on Saturday afternoon. Tyler Spence capped an SRU rally with a goal with exactly a minute to go for a 3-2 Slippery Rock win.
 
With the victory, Slippery Rock clinched the Western Division regular season title with 39 points. Edinboro has clinched a spot in the PSAC Tournament and is now looking to clinch second place and a home first round game. The Fighting Scots are 9-4-3 overall and 9-2-3 in the PSAC. SRU improved to 14-3-0 and 13-2-0, respectively. Edinboro came in ranked sixth in the initial NCAA Atlantic Region rankings while SRU was third.
 
Edinboro jumped out to 2-0 lead at the half and was looking to sweep the regular season series after winning the first meeting, 2-1 in overtime. Danielle Chatten scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season to give the Fighting Scots a 1-0 lead just 3:23 into the match.
 
The lead would grow to 2-0 at 19:37 on Rebecca Mann's fourth of the season, assisted bt Clare Crossley. That would be the score at the half, despite Slippery Rock holding a 13-4 advantage in shots.
 
The Rock would keep up that pressure in the second half, holding a 15-3 edge in shots, and eventually they were able to find the back of the net. Georgia Nagucki scored on a penalty kick at 70:22 to cut the lead in half. The goal came on a red card, which forced Edinboro to play a man short the rest of the match.  
 
Just over a minute later at 71:59, Slippery Rock knotted the score at 2-2 on a goal by Jordyn Minda, assisted by Spence.
 
The match appeared to be headed for overtime until Spence took a pass from Rachel Edge and scored her sixth goal of the season with exactly one minute left.
 
SRU held a 28-7 advantage in shots and led in corner kicks 16-1. Despite facing a plethora of shots, Anna Voelker finished with 11 saves. SRU goalkeeper Emma Yoder had 2 saves.
 
The Fighting Scots are back in action on Wednesday, November 6 playing at Pitt-Johnstown. The match gets underway at 3:30 p.m. The Fighting Scots won the first meeting between the two on October 1, 1-0 in overtime.
