AROUND THE PSAC

MATCH STORYLINES
  • The PSAC Tournament field is almost set, with seven of the eight spots settled. All that remains is for Edinboro to nail down the final spot. The Fighting Scots hold a two-match lead over Mercyhurst with two matches to play. Edinboro is 9-7 and hosts Gannon tonight before playing at Slippery Rock on Friday night. Mercyhurst is 7-9 and plays at Clarion on Friday and at Slippery Rock on Saturday. Clarion clinched a playoff spot on Tuesday with a win over Slippery Rock.
  • Edinboro enters the final two matches with a 15-12 overall record. The Fighting Scots and Gannon squared off on October 8 at the Hammermill Center with the Lady Knights winning 3-1. Gannon was chosen the preseason favorite in the PSAC Northwest and has not disappointed, coming in with a 24-5 record and going 15-1 in league play. The Lady Knight's lone league defeat was a 3-2 setback at Shepherd. Slippery Rock comes in with a 7-21 record and is 2-14 in league play. That includes a 3-0 loss at Edinboro.
  • Senior Abigail Horner will be recognized prior to the match Edinboro celebrates Senior Night. A 5'7" defensive specialist/libero, she has appeared in 25 matches and 78 sets. She has 45 digs and 9 service aces.
  • Molly Breier is about to become the 13th Fighting Scot with 1,000 career digs. She had 20 on Saturday at IUP to give her 992 for her career. The junior libero has been on roll of late, with double-figure digs in the last nine matches and 23 of 27 overall. She leads the Fighting Scots with 385 digs.
  • Cierah Jackson also joined the 1,000-club earlier this year, with the junior outside hitter reaching the mark in kills. She has boosted her total to 1,081, which ranks ninth all-time at Edinboro.  She leads the Fighting Scots with 338 kills and has been in double figures in 22 of 27 matches. She has been named the PSAC Northwest Division Athlete of the Week twice this season. Jackson was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Javelina Volleyball Invitational. She has earned second team All-PSAC honors while leading the Fighting Scots in kills each of her first two seasons.
  • Alicia Eldredge is a third Fighting Scot climbing in the career statistics. Though just a sophomore, she has 1,847 career assists, including 931 this year, to rank 10th all-time. She also has a team-high 46 aces along with 182 digs.
  • Middle hitters Erica Sharp and Sally Sterkel have come up big of late. Sharp, a 6'2" freshman, leads the team with 80 total blocks and stands third in kills with 187. Sterkel, a 6'2" sophomore, adds 140 kills and 37 blocks. Throw in junior Paige Morris (99 kills, 62 blocks) and the Scots have an impressive trio of middle hitters.
  • Bella Burrelli has enjoyed an impressive freshman campaign.  A 6'0" outside hitter, she stands second on the team in both kills (278) and digs (236), and is second in service aces (37).
