Fighting Scots Hold Off Roberts Wesleyan for 67-65 Road Win

Box Score (New/Sortable Format) ROCHESTER, N.Y.Turner Kurt scored on a short jumper in the paint with 15 seconds to give Edinboro the lead, and the Fighting Scots went on to post a 67-65 win at Roberts Wesleyan on Thursday night. Edinboro moved to 2-0 on the young season while playing its first road game. Roberts Wesleyan fell to 1-2.

Edinboro had taken its largest lead of the night at 49-40 with just under 14 minutes to play, but the Redhawks would start chipping away at the lead. An 8-0 run gave Roberts Wesleyan a 58-56 lead with 6:15 to play on a basket by Armon Nasseri.

There would be four ties and eight lead changes the rest of the way, with the final lead change giving the Fighting Scots the lead for good. Kurt, a 6'8" sophomore, took an inbounds pass and scored on a short banks shot in the paint to give the lead back to Edinboro for good at 66-65.

After a Roberts Wesleyan miss, Anthony Coleman was fouled and went to the line with five seconds remaining. The redshirt senior guard made the first before missing the second to give the Scots a two-point advantage.  The Redhawks were unable to get a shot off in the final seconds.

Jaryn Simpson led four players in double figures with 18 points, adding four assists. Trey Staunch made 7-of-9 field goals and 2-of-2 free throws to finish with 16 points. The 6'4" graduate student added nine rebounds.

Alex Jay finished with a season-high 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting, and joined Staunch with nine rebounds. Daylon Harris came off the bench to contribute 10 points, making 4-of-5 field goals and 2-of-2 free throws.

Nasseri led all scorers with 24 points for Roberts Wesleyan, adding 17 rebounds. Reggie Clark added 17 points, making 4-of-11 3-pointers.
Edinboro shot 42.9 percent from the floor (27-of-63) while holding Roberts Wesleyan to 34.4 percent (22-of-64).  The Fighting Scots made 7-of-22 3-pointers while the Redhawks were 10-of-35 from beyond the arc. Edinboro made 6-of-11 free throws and Roberts Wesleyan 11-of-15. Roberts Wesleyan held a slight 43-40 advantage on the glass. Edinboro committed 10 turnovers and the Redhawks 11. The game featured 14 lead changes and 11 ties.

The Fighting Scots head back out on the road on Monday, November 18 playing at Notre Dame(Oh.). Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
