SERIES HISTORY
  • All-Time Series: West Chester leads 13-4-2
  • Last Meeting: September 29, 2018: #12 West Chester 1, Edinboro 0
  • How It Happened: No. 12 West Chester held off an upset-minded Edinboro squad on Homecoming, scoring in the final minutes.  WCU's Kendall Rich scored her fifth goal of the season at 86:24 for the lone goal in the match. The Golden Rams then held off scoring attempts by the Fighting Scots in the final minutes to escape with the win. WCU held an 18-11 lead in shots, although Edinboro had three corner kicks to one for West Chester. Anna Voelker had 7 saves, as did McKenna Mullin of WCU.

MATCH STORYLINES
  • Edinboro, the number two seed out of the Western Division, advanced to the PSAC Final Four for the third time in school history with a 2-1 win over third-seeded Mercyhurst in the PSAC Quarterfinals on Tuesday at Sox Harrison Stadium. Danielle Chatten scored both of Edinboro's goals in a span of two minutes. The senior forward scored the match's first goal at 63:27, and added another goal at 65:03. Mercyhurst would the lead in half on a penalty kick in the 80th minute. The victory boosted the Fighting Scots to 11-5-3.        
  • West Chester won by a similar 2-1 score, but in overtime, as the Golden Rams, seeded fourth out of the Eastern Division, upset sixth-ranked Bloomsburg on Katie Crouthermel's goal with 45 seconds left in the second overtime. Hannah Zach gave WCU a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute, but Bloomsburg knotted the score three minutes into the second half. The win boosted West Chester to 12-4-1 on the season.   
  • The Fighting Scots are making their first appearance in the PSAC Tournament since 2016, and 12th overall.  They have never won the PSAC championship, advancing to the title game in 2015 before losing to East Stroudsburg, 2-1 in overtime.
  • Edinboro was picked to finish sixth in the PSAC West in the coaches' preseason poll. After losing their first two matches, the Fighting Scots went undefeated over the next 12 matches (9-0-3), the best stretch in team history.  Edinboro fell from sixth to eighth in the third NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings released on Wednesday, with West Chester ranked six.
  • The PSAC released its All-PSAC women's soccer teams on Thursday. Edinboro's Gary Kagiavas was named the PSAC West Coach of the Year, marking the fourth time he has earned the honor. He was previously recognized in 2001, 2005, and 2007. Kagiavas has a 230-183-40 record, all as Edinboro's only head coach. The Fighting Scots have qualified for the PSAC Playoffs 12 times, with eight of those in the last ten years. Entering the season, Kagiavas ranked 24th among active Division II coaches in victories. In addition, he ranks second in wins among PSAC women's soccer coaches, exceeded only by West Chester's Betsy Anne Kempf-Townsley with 344 wins. 
  • In addition, seven players were accorded All-PSAC West honors. Senior forward Danielle Chatten, senior midfielder Sidney Dobbins, and junior defender Cameron Bujnoski were named to the first team, with sophomore goalkeeper Anna Voelker, junior midfielder Jenna Derbis, redshirt junior forward Rebecca Manns, and junior defender Maggie Fragapane earning spots on the second team.        
  • Eleven different players have scored goals for Edinboro. Danielle Chatten leads the way with11 goals and 5 assists for 27 points. The senior forward has moved into ninth place in both career goals (28) and career points (71), and is tied for sixth in career assists (15). She scored both of Edinboro's goals in the quarterfinal win over Mercyhurst. Brittnie Spithaler, a sophomore forward, adds 6 goals and 5 assists for 17 points. Rebecca Manns has 4 goals and 8 assists, and is fifth in career assists with 19.     
  • Sophomore Anna Voelker has been in goal for every minute and has a 1.15 GAA, good for sixth in the PSAC, with 7 shutouts. The 7 shutouts ties the school record and gives her 10 career shutouts, good for a tie for fifth all-time. She had a streak of 371-plus minutes without allowing a goal come to an end at IUP. She has played 1807 minutes, which ranks second in a season and just 14 minutes shy of the school record. In addition, her 111 saves ranks second after she recorded the third-highest total last year with 109. Voelker ranks fourth in career saves with 220 and is tied for fifth in career shutouts with 10. She is eighth in career wins with 17.
  • West Chester has an 12-4-2 record after upsetting top-seed and sixth-ranked Bloomsburg, 2-1 in two overtimes, in the PSAC Quarterfinals.  The Golden Rams are making their 17th straight appearance in the PSAC Tournament . In addition, head coach Betty Ann Kempf Townsley is making her 14th consecutive PSAC Tournament appearance and has gone 17-9 in the tournament.  The Golden Rams have won four PSAC Championship, the most recent title coming in 2010. The Golden Rams are led by PSAC East Athlete of the Year Jenny Bail. The sophomore defender has contributed 6 goals and2 assists for 14 points while spearheading a defense that has recorded six shutouts. Bail and Hannah Zach earned first team All-PSAC East accolades, while Jesse Magee and Madison Baxter were accorded second team honors. Zach is WCU's leading scorer with 11 goals and an assist for 23 points. Freshman Hayley McGee has taken over in goal and has a 0.62 GAA.
UP NEXT
  • The winner of Friday's semifinal game will meet the winner of the Slippery Rock-East Stroudsburg semifinal game in the PSAC Championship on Sunday, November 17 at 1 p.m. at Slippery Rock. The loser will have to wait until the NCAA announces the 2019 tournament field on Monday to see if their season continues.
