Fighting Scots Begin Busy Week on Wednesday at Daemen

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team returns to the hardcourt this week after opening the season with an impressive 87-42 win over Lake Erie on November 12. The Fighting Scots begin a hectic stretch with three games in five days. It starts with a contest at Daemen, on Wednesday, November 20. Tipoff is set at 6:00 p.m.

Second-year head coach views the upcoming stretch very important to a young a team with high expectations. The physical rigors of the stretch, along with the youthful nature of the team, will prove demanding. Following Wednesday's game, the Fighting Scots begin PSAC West action on Saturday, November 23 and Sunday, November 24, with a pair of PSAC crossover contests. Shepherd will play its first-ever PSAC contest on Saturday, with long-time PSAC foe Shippensburg visiting McComb Fieldhouse on Sunday.

Edinboro had four players score in double figures and ten players score in all in the opening win over Lake Erie. Michaela Barnes led the way as the senior guard dropped in 18 points, making 7-of-13 field goals and 4-of-5 free throws.  That boosted her career points to 1,300.  Barnes was a first team All-PSAC West selection a year ago and went on to earn honorable mention WBCA All-American honors.

Three other players chipped in with 10 points apiece. After missing last season following knee surgery, Cheniya Sharpe returned to contribute 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds, five of those on the offensive side. The redshirt senior made 5-of-6 field goals and had three steals.

Maggie Gilbert, a 6'3" junior who transferred from Southeastern, added 10 points, five rebounds, and three blocked shots. She enjoyed a perfect shooting night, making 3-of-3 field goals and 4-of-4 free throws. Freshman Emma Elash matched Sharpe with 10 points and a team-high eight boards.  

Daemen is off to a 3-1 start, opening the year with a 77-70 loss to Stonehill. The Wildcats have since run off three straight wins, prevailing 65-45 over Franklin Pierce, 83-48 over Bloomfield, and 70-47 over Concordia(NY). The average margin of victory in those three contests is 26 points, and they have held the last three opponents to 46.7 ppg.

Daemen has four players scoring in double figures, led by Katie Titus at 14.5 ppg. She is a 6'0" sophomore who is shooting 59.5 percent from the floor with 5.0 rpg. and 7 blocked shots. Caroline White, a 5'11" junior, adds 12.5 ppg. and a team-high 7.3 rpg., while Ashli Jeune and Tiara Filbert contribute 10.8 and 10.0 ppg., respectively. Jeune, a 5'10" transfer from UNC-Wilmington, averages 5.3 rpg. with 12 steals.  

Edinboro owns an 8-1 advantage in the all-time series with the Wildcats. The two teams last met on November 16, 2016, with Edinboro claiming a 90-59 at McComb Fieldhouse.
