Jackson, Breier Help Edinboro Close In on PSAC Tournament Berth with 3-1 Win at IUP

  • The Short Story: Edinboro moved a step closer to clinching a spot in the PSAC Tournament with a four-set win at Indiana(Pa.). The Fighting Scots prevailed by scores of 25-11, 25-10, 22-25, and 25-20. Edinboro jumped out to a quick lead with impressive wins in the first two sets, but IUP came back to cut the lead to 2-1. The Crimson Hawks opened up a 14-12 lead in the fourth set looking to evening the match. Edinboro, however, used a late 8-3 run to put away IUP. Erica Sharp contributed three kills in that run. The Fighting Scots have two matches remaining as they close in on a playoff berth. Next up is the final home match of the season against Gannon on Thursday, November 14. Cierah Jackson once again led the Fighting scots with 17 kills. Sharp was also in double figures with 10, along with five total blocks. Molly Breier had 20 digs to boost her career total 992.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING   
  • Cierah Jackson has now led Edinboro in kills in 19 of 27 matches after finishing with 17 kills and an impressive .536 hitting percentage. That boosted her career total to 1,081, good for ninth place all-time.
  • Middle hitters Erica Sharp and Sally Sterkel continued to make a strong impact. Sharp, a freshman, had 10 kills and a .643 hitting percentage, along with 3 block solos and 2 block assists. Sterkel, a sophomore, chipped in 7 kills and 3 block solos as Edinboro had 11 block solos.      
  • Alicia Eldredge boosted her career assists total to 1,827 as the sophomore had 39 assists. She added 7 kills and 2 block solos.     
  • Molly Breier is about to become the 13th Fighting Scot with 1,000 career digs. She had 20 on Saturday to give her 982 for her career. Jessica Giannoccaro added 9 digs.
  • One day after hitting .123 against UPJ, Edinboro enjoyed a strong day on the attack with a .333 hitting percentage.  That was compared to .098 for IUP. The Fighting Scots also dominated the front line with 14 total blocks to 6 for IUP.       .
UP NEXT   
  • Edinboro plays its final home match of the 2019 season, hosting local rival Gannon in a PSAC Northwest contest on Thursday, November 14. The Lady Knights claimed a 3-1 win over Edinboro earlier in the year.
