Harris Sinks Two Free Throws in Final Second as Edinboro Wins at Kutztown, 88-86 in Overtime

KUTZTOWN, Pa.Daylon Harris made a pair of free throws with .9 seconds remaining in overtime to give Edinboro an 88-86 win at Kutztown on Saturday evening. The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for the Fighting Scots as they improved to 5-4 overall and 2-3 in PSAC action. Kutztown fell to 5-6 and 3-2, respectively.

The Fighting Scots were playing their second overtime game of the season after losing at Millersville, 91-83 in overtime, two weeks ago.
Edinboro held a double-digit lead in the first half despite playing without starting guard Jaryn Simpson for the second straight game. The
Fighting Scots would lead 38-32 at intermission as Alex Jay scored all nine of his points.

Kuztown would take its first lead since the first minute of the game early in the second half, and the stanza would turn into a back-and-forth affair. In all, there were eight ties and eight lead changes in the second half.

The Fighting Scots would trail by as many as five points at 67-62 with just under five minutes to play. They would regain the lead with eight straight points on a pair of Turner Kurt 3-pointers and a wild layup by Steven Freeman.

Anthony Coleman's step-back three would give Edinboro a 77-73 lead with 31 seconds left. Kutztown answered with an improbable four-point play by Tarojae Brake with 19 seconds left to tie the score at 77-77. Edinboro would turn the ball over, with Kutztown missing a hurried three at the buzzer.

The overtime period would feature two ties and four lead changes. Brake opened the overtime period with another three, and Kutztown still led 83-82 with 2:38 remaining. Coleman's jumper gave the lead back to Edinboro at 84-83 with 2:06 remaining, and the redshirt senior guard hit two free throws with 1:07 remaining for an 86-83 lead.

The Golden Bears would knot the score at 86-86 on a drive by Kyrie Generett, who completed the 3-point play with a free throw with 14 seconds remaining.  Coleman would miss a contested 3-pointer, but Harris was fouled after grabbing the rebound. The senior forward calmly made both free throws with .9 seconds left for the winning points. A three-quarter length of the court three was no good for Kutztown as the buzzer sounded.

Coleman would lead all scorers with 30 points, his second 30-point effort of the season and fourth of his career. He made 11-of-21 field goals, including 5-of-8 3-pointers, and was 3-of-4 at the line. He added six rebounds and five assists.

Trey Staunch battled inside for 21 points, making 8-of-12 field goals and 5=of-5 free throws. He added eight rebounds. Alex Jay finished with nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Kurt had 12 points, making 3-of-4 three's, and added eight boards.

Kutztown had three players in double figures. Wesley Butler and Brake finished with 21 points apiece, while Josh Townsend had 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Fighting Scots were 16-of-19 at the line. Kutztown shot 46.3 percent from the floor (31-of-67), but made just 7-of-23 3-pointers while going 17-of-29 at the line.

Edinboro will return to action after the New Year on January 3, opening PSAC west action at Gannon.
