EDINBORO, Pa.Michaela Barnes Lakewood, Ohio/Kenston) scored a season-high 31 points and Monica Brown (Cranesville, Pa./Northwestern) matched her career-high with 12 points, but Walsh used an 11-3 run late in the game to hand Edinboro a 79-72 loss at McComb Fieldhouse on Tuesday night. Edinboro is now 2-3 while Walsh improved to 6-2.

The contest pitted two teams who played in the NCAA Division II Tournament a year ago, and had the feel of a playoff game. The two teams exchanged the lead an incredible 21 times, and there were eight ties.

The two teams entered the fourth quarter tied at 59-59. The fourth period alone featured five lead changes and a pair of ties before a veteran Cavaliers squad pulled away in the final two minutes.  Barnes would hit two free throws with 3:12 remaining for a 69-68 Boro lead.

Unfortunately, Walsh scored the next seven points as Edinboro would go scoreless for almost three minutes. Mayci Sales' layup gave the Cavaliers the lead for good at 70-69 with 2:33 remaining. Kimmie Borck followed with a 3-pointer, and Sales added a pair of free throws for a 75-69 lead with 34 seconds to play.

Rana Elhusseini's (Dearborn, Mich./Fordson) three closed the gap to 75-72 with 28 seconds left, but the Fighting Scots were forced to foul and the Cavaliers converted 4-of-6 free throws the rest of the way.

Barnes registered her fourth career 30-point game as the senior guard moved into 12th place in career scoring with 1,381 points. She made 9-of-23 shots, including 2-of-5 3-pointers, and went 11-of-12 at the line.

Bridgette Shaffer (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk0 and Brown were also in double digits at 13 and 12 points, respectively. Shaffer made 3-of-6 3-pointers and also pulled down five rebounds. Brown made her second straight start and matched her career high of 12 points while making 3-of-4 field goals, including 2-of-3 3-pointers, and 4-of-5 free throws. The sophomore also had five rebounds. Cheniya Sharpe (Springfield, Va./Trinity Christian) paced Edinboro on the glass with 10 rebounds.

Walsh had four players score in double figures, led by Tyler Newkirk with 17, along with eight rebounds. Sales had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Borck contributed 15 points off the bench. Quinoche Carter finished with 11 points.

Edinboro shot 40.0 percent from the floor (24-of-60) while Walsh finished the night at 48.3 percent (29-of-60). Both teams made nine 3-pointers, with Edinboro attempting 20 and the Cavaliers 27. Edinboro was 15-of-17 at the line, with Barnes and Brown the lone players to attempt a free throw. Walsh was 12-of-16 at the charity stripe.

The rebound battle was nearly even, with Walsh holding a slight 36-34 advantage. The Fighting Scots committed 18 turnovers compared to 14 for Walsh. That led to a 24-17 advantage for the Cavaliers in points off turnovers.

Edinboro will head east this weekend for a pair of contests before breaking for final exams. The Fighting Scots play a PSAC crossover contest at Millersville on Saturday, December 7, then move on to play at former PSAC foe Cheyney on Sunday, December 8.
