THE GAME FACTS
  • Score:  Seton Hill 87, Edinboro 82
  • Records:  Edinboro (7-14, 4-12 PSAC West), Seton Hill (8-15, 6-11 PSAC West)
  • Location:  Edinboro, Pa. – McComb Fieldhouse
  • The Short Story:  In a game that featured four ties and six lead changes, Seton Hill used a pair of late 3-pointers from Nathan Davis to take the lead, then held on as Jaryn Simpson drained a pair of 3-pointers to pull the Fighting Scots to within two points. Davis' back-to-back three's gave the Griffins a 78-74 lead with 1:21 remaining, and four free throws boosted the lead to 82-75, the largest of the night, with 37 seconds to play. That's when Simpson hit back-to-back long three's, and the Fighting Scots were suddenly within two points at 84-82 with 26 seconds to play. Davis made one-of-two free throws with 20 seconds to go, giving the Boro hopes of tying the contest. Edinboro would three 3-pointers over the next 19 seconds before Milenko Predic converted two free throws for the final margin. Edinboro had four players in double figures, led by Simpson's 18 points. Daylon Harris added 16 points and Trey Staunch 14. Freshman Turner Kurt had his first career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Edinboro was seeking its third straight win, with the loss making the road to the PSAC Tournament a little bumpier.
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Seton Hill scored the first two points of the game, Edinboro scored the next eight points and would lead by as many as seven points on three occasions. The last came at 38-31 with three-and-a-half minutes left in the half. The Griffins would close to within one points on three occasions after that, the last as Nathan Davis drained a 3-pointer with 36 seconds left to pull to within 43-42 at the half.
  • Seton Hill took its first lead since the opening seconds of the game at 52-51 on a layup by Malik McKinney with just under 17 minutes remaining.
  • Edinboro answered with a 9-2 run fueled by 3-pointers by Jaryn Simpson and Turner Kurt. That gave the Fighting Scots a 60-54 lead with 13:45 left. They would eventually build the advantage to seven points at 63-56 with 10:55 to play.
  • Seton Hill answered with a 10-2 run to reclaim the lead at 66-65 at the 7:23 mark, as McKinney made a 3-pointer from the right win. DeAnthony Owen's three and a Trey Staunch layup gave the lead back to the Fighting Scots at 70-66, but back-to-back hoops by Milenko Predic knotted the score at 70-70. Following an Edinboro timeout, the Scots turned the ball over, one of 10 costly turnovers in the second half, and Predic scored again to give the Griffins the lead at 72-70 with just under five minutes to play.
  • Steven Freeman made a pair of free throws to tie the score at 72-72, before Davis stepped up with a pair of crippling three's. Davis had scored 15 points in the first half, but the Scots held the PSAC's fifth-leading scorer to just three points before the back-to-back trifectas boosted Seton Hill's lead to 78-74 with 1:21 remaining.
  • After an Edinboro turnover, the Fighting Scots were forced to foul. The Griffins would make 4-of-4 free throws to move ahead 82-75 with 37 seconds left.
  • The Fighting Scots had one last gasp, thanks to Simpson. The sophomore guard hit a long three, but Trevor Blondin's two free throws made it 84-78 with 31 ticks showing. Simpson then hit another long three from the left wing, and was fouled on the play. When the PSAC's leading free throw shooter converted the four-point play, Edinboro was suddenly just two points back at 84-82 with 26 seconds left.
  • Davis would give the Fighting Scots a chance after he made just one-of-two free throws with 20 seconds to go. Owens came down and missed a 3-pointer, with Kurt grabbing the rebound. After a timeout, Simpson missed a contested three, and Owens was able to get of an off-balance attempt from beyond the line that fell shy of the mark. Predic grabbed the rebound and converted two free throws with a second left for the final margin.
