The Short Story: The Fighting Scots opened the
LeighAnn Stauffer era with an 11-8 loss to visiting Walsh on a cold, snowy day in Edinboro.
Desiree Doucette opened up the scoring less than 10 minutes into the game off a pass from Kanyce Graham to put the Fighting Scots on the board first. The score would be tied four times, the last at 5-5, before the Cavaliers would have their biggest lead with just four minutes left in the game at 11-7 before
Mary Uplinger recorded her first goal of the season to pull the final score back within three at 11-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edinboro scored first off a goal from Doucette from Graham just 9:13 minutes of the game.
- Walsh scored five of the next seven goals to take a 5-3 lead just under 21 minutes in the game. The Fighting Scots pulled back even, 5-5, with a pair of goals from Graham and Anna Leva.
- Hannah McFeeters scored her eighth goal of the season for Walsh with 1:22 left in the first half to put the Cavaliers back up 6-5 going into halftime.
- Walsh scored three of the final four goals to take the lead for good. Uplinger scored her first goal of the season with just under two and a half minutes left in the game.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Edinboro finished the game with 26 shots compared to 36 for the Cavaliers. Doucette led the team with four while a total of seven different Fighting Scots picked up a draw control.
- Both Sidney Dobbins and Anna Leva scored two goals a piece. Leva also added an assist.
- Sophie DePalma picked up four points on the afternoon with a goal and a trio of assists.
- Sophomore Candace McDole, who was second in Div. II in saves in 2018, made 16 saves and played all 60 in the cage for the Fighting Scots. She also had the game-high nine ground balls against Walsh.
- McFeeters scored four goals on the day on eight shots while also pulling in four draw controls for the Cavaliers. She now has nine goals on the season.
- Fourteen different Walsh players had at least one ground ball with Mikaela Faus and Grace Andreski tied for the team-high with five each.
- Faus made 12 saves while playing the entire game and improved her season record to 2-0.
NEXT FOR THE FIGHTING SCOTS
- Edinboro will travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C. to take on Saint Leo (Fla.) for a neutral site game on Saturday, March 2. The game against the Lions is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
