  • The Short Story: Edinboro avenged a 100-88 loss at Pitt-Johnstown in January and snapped a two-game losing streak in another high-scoring game. Jaryn Simpson turned in a monster effort for the Fighting Scots, as the sophomore guard posted the first triple-double at Edinboro since the 2007-08 season. Simpson finished with 25 points, a career-high 14 rebounds, and tied his career-high with 11 assists. He led a group of five players in double figures. Edinboro led by eight points at the half at 46-38, then used an 18-6 spurt to open the second half for a 20-point advantage at 64-44. The Mountain Cats would not go quietly, however, closing the gap to 88-84 with three minutes left. Simpson and DeAnthony Owens took over from there, as each made four free throws in the final minute.

BY THE NUMBER
  • The night belonged to Jaryn Simpson. The sophomore guard registered the first triple-double for Edinboro since Ryan McLemore finished with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 12 blocked shots against Slippery Rock on February 13, 2008. Simpson had his ninth game of 20-or-more points, finishing with 25. He added a career-high 14 rebounds, and matched his career-best with 11 assists. He would make 8-of-17 field goals, including 3 3-pointers, and went 6-of-6 at the line, all in the last five minutes of the game. He played all 40 minutes for the fifth straight game.
  • Simpson was joined by four other players in double figures. Freshman Turner Kurt added 17 points, making 7-of-10 field goals and 3-of-5 3-pointers, before fouling out. Daylon Harris enjoyed one of his best nights of the season with 14 points on the strength of a 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.
  • DeAnthony Owens came off the bench to contribute 14 points in just 18 minutes. The junior guard had sat out the last eight games before returning against UPJ. Alex Jay enjoyed a perfect shooting night, making all four of his shots, including a pair of three's to match his season high with 10 points.
  • Trey Staunch was held to seven points, but the burly forward matched his career high with 12 rebounds, and even handed out a career-best seven assists.
  • Freshman Kameron King enjoyed his strong play of late. The 6'4" guard contributed nine points in 16 minutes, making a pair of three's and 3-of-4 free throws.
  • Edinboro would shoot better than 50 percent from the floor for just the fourth time this season, and did so against a UPJ team that paced the PSAC in field goal percentage defense. The Fighting Scots shot 52.5 percent (32-of-61), and made a season-high 15 3-pointers in 28 tries. They went 17-of-22 from the line. UPJ came into the game leading the PSAC in field goal percentage at just over 50 percent. The Mountain Cats warmed up in the second half to shoot 47.7 percent (31-of-65), including 7-of-22 3-pointers. They were 19-of-30 at the line.

Fred Mulbah and Romano Sebastiani added 19 points apiece, with Mulbah handing out seven assists. Sebastiani made 5-of-7 3-pointers. Marcin Wiszormirski came off the bench to contribute 12 points.
