The Short Story: Edinboro erased a 19-point deficit to hand 17th-ranked California(Pa.) its first home loss in two seasons. A well-rested Vulcan team took advantage of their bye week, as they jumped out to a 25-6 lead after the first quarter. The Fighting Scots would score the first ten points of the second quarter, part of a 17-2 run, to pull to within 38-28 at the half. The deficit was still eight points at 54-46 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Fighting Scots rode a stifling defensive effort in the fourth quarter, plus a strong effort by
Ciara Rosten, to complete the rally. The Vulcans would make 3-of-17 shots, with 11 straight misses at one point, as Edinboro outscored Cal, 16-7. Limited by foul trouble, Rosten scored 10 of Edinboro's 16 points in the period and once again held down Seairra Barrett, one of the leading scorers in Division II. Rosten keyed a 12-0 run as Edinboro went from a 59-50 deficit to 62-59 lead. Her three-point play tied the score at 59-59, and Edinboro took its first lead of the game at 61-59 on
Michaela Barnes' drive with 3:29 remaining. Barnes kept the Fighting Scots in the game for three quarters with 25 of her 27 points.
- Entering the second quarter down 25-6, Edinboro scored the first 10 points of the period, in what ended up being the start of a 17-2 run. That would cut the deficit to four points at 27-24 with just under four minutes remaining until halftime.
- Michaela Barnes scored nine of the points during the run. She started the run with two free throws and a layup. Jontay Walton laid in a basket, followed by a Barnes jumper and back-to-back Monica Brown free throws. Cal's Abbey Sporio halted the run at the 5:05 mark with the Vulcans first points of the frame on a jumper. Bridgette Shaffer connected on a jumper on Edinboro's next possession and Barnes finished the run with a 3-pointer and another jumper.
- Edinboro trailed 38-28 at the half, with Barnes leading all players with 16 points. Edinboro did the majority of the work over the first two quarters without Ciara Rosten. With three fouls, the 6'2" forward was limited to just seven minutes, as she scored two points and grabbed two rebounds.
- Through 30 minutes, Edinboro was down eight points at 54-46. Over the first three minutes of the final stanza, each team scored four points. However, Edinboro utilized a stifling defense the rest of the way, as the Fighting Scots outscored Cal U, 12-3 over the final seven minutes.
- Rosten sparked a 12-0 Edinboro run that began with 6:52 left. She scored consecutive layups, followed by a Walton jumper. Rosten then converted a traditional three-point play. Her free throw knotted the game at 59-59. A layup by Barnes would give Edinboro its first lead of the contest and the advantage for good. Rosten wrapped up the run by splitting a pair of free throws.
