Edinboro Opens PSAC Play with Season-High 10 Goals but Falls at Millersville

The Short Story:  Edinboro opened PSAC action on Saturday with a season-high 10 goals, but the Fighting Scots fell on the road at Millersville, 18-10. Trailing 9-4 at the half, Edinboro pulled to within 10-7 with 17 minutes remaining on Desiree Doucette's goal. But the Marauders answered with six of the next seven goals to pull away. Anna Leva continues to recover from last year's season-ending injury, finishing with three goals and three assists for six points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Edinboro opened the scoring as Sophie DePalma found the back of the net for her third goal, assisted by Anna Leva, at 26:53. Millersville would answer with the next three goals, but the Fighting Scots picked up goals from Mary Uplinger and Leva to knot the score at 3-3 with 21:49 left in the half.
  • The two teams would exchange goals, with Sidney Dobbins scoring at 15:38 off a pass from Leva to tie the score at 4-4. The Marauders took the lead for good at the 15:05 mark on a free position goal by Erin Fagan. That would start a string of five straight goals as Millersville grabbed a 9-4 lead at the half. The Marauders held a 22-11 advantage in shots in the half as Edinboro committed 13 turnovers.
  • Edinboro opened the second half scoring at 23:44 as Uplinger scored her second goal of the match to close the gap to 9-5. Millersville scored four minutes later to make it 10-5. Marina Adelizzio's first career goal made it 10-6, and when Doucette scored her fourth goal of the year, the Fighting Scots were within 10-7 with 17:03 to play.
  • Unfortunately, Millersville would score the next three goals and six of the next seven to build a 16-8 lead. Genevieve Speights and Gillian Zimmerman accounted for two goals apiece.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Edinboro scored a season-high 10 goals, but Millersville would take 22 shots in each half and hold a 44-25 advantage in shots. Edinboro committed 24 turnovers compared to 13 for the Marauders.
  • Candace McDole finished with 18 saves in goal for the second straight game. Shannon Davis had 11 saves in the net for Millersville.  
  • Anna Leva now has 10 goals on the season and a team-high 14 points as the redshirt freshman contributed three goals and three assists. Six different players scored, with Sophie DePalma recording two goals and two assists and Mary Uplinger adding two goals. Marina Adelizzio notched her first career goal, with Sidney Dobbins and Desiree Doucette also scoring a goal.
  • Millersville had eight different players score, with four contributing three goals apiece. That group included Erin Fagan, Emily Jacobson, Genevieve Speights, and Gillian Zimmerman.  
NEXT FOR THE FIGHTING SCOTS
  • Edinboro returns to action on Tuesday, March 19, playing their fifth straight match on the road, this one at Seton Hill. The contest will begin at 4:00 p.m. Seton Hill has a 2-4 record after suffering a 13-9 loss to East Stroudsburg on Saturday.
