DePalma Scores Hat Trick In 10-7 Loss To Bloomsburg

The Short Story:  Sophie DePalma scored a hat trick against the Huskies but it was not enough as the Edinboro women's lacrosse team fell, 10-7, to #25 Bloomsburg in PSAC action Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Scots trailed by two at the half and cut it to one just over two minutes in to the second, but the Huskies pulled away for the 10-7 win. Edinboro moves to 1-8 overall and 1-4 in the PSAC while Bloomsburg improves to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the PSAC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Bloomsburg scored a pair of goals just 11 minutes into the game to take a 2-0 over the Fighting Scots. Kandyce Graham would cut the lead in half at the 12:20 with her seventh goal of the season.
  • The Huskies would score the next two goals, including a man-down goal to take the 4-1 lead. With 4:25 left in the first half, Sophie DePalma scored her first goal of the day and seventh of the season to pull Edinboro back within two at the break, 4-2.
  • Just over two minutes into the second half, DePalma found the back of the cage on an assist from Sidney Dobbins to bring the Fighting Scots back within one at 4-3.
  • Bloomsburg would jump out to a four goal lead with a trio of goals scored in less than two minutes. Three different Huskies scored during the stretch.
  • Anna Leva scored her 19th goal of the season at the 16:15 mark to cut into the lead. Bloomsburg's Anna Dempsey responded just over a minute later with her goal to keep the lead at four.
  • Mary Uplinger pulled Edinboro back within three off an assist from Leva with just under 13 minutes left in the contest. Three minutes later Abby Bergman pulled the Huskies' lead back in their favor with goal, 9-5
  • The back and forth continued with DePalma scoring her third goal of the day and ninth of the season with 5:08 left in the game. However, Bergman returned the lead to four with 3:57 left in the second half.
  • Just 51 second later, Dobbins scored her 12th goal of the season off a pass from DePalma to bring the Fighting Scots within three once more with 3:06 left.
  • Both teams played even the rest of the game, each attempting a shot with both goalies recording saves.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Sophie DePalma's hat trick was her first of the season. She now has nine goals this year while adding an assist to bring her assist total to seven.
  • Five different Fighting Scots scored including DePalma's three. Anna Leva, Sidney Dobbins, Kandyce Graham, and Mary Uplinger all scored against the Huskies.
  • Candace McDole made 14 saves on 30 shots by the Huskies. She now has 103 saves on the season.
  • The Huskies were led by Abby Berman's four goals, while six different players scored. Bloomsburg had a pair of assists on their goals.
  • Edinboro led the Huskies in saves (14-8) and groundballs (21-16). The two teams both had 19 successful clears.

  • Edinboro will have a quick turnaround has they host Indiana(Pa.) on Tuesday, April 2. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
