Fighting Scots Wrap Up Spring Trip with Loss to No. 20 Florida Tech

The Short Story:  The Edinboro women's lacrosse team fell to 0-3 on the season with a 19-6 loss to Florida Tech on Friday afternoon. The match was played at a neutral site in Myrtle Beach. FIT improved to 4-3 with the win. The Fighting Scots trailed just 8-4 at halftime, and the score was still 9-5 early in the second half before the Panthers ran off five straight goals, the final four coming in just over three minutes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Edinboro grabbed a 1-0 lead on Mary Uplinger's goal 41 seconds into the match. FIT answered with a pair of goals, but the Fighting Scots would knot the score at 2-2 with 24:26 remaining on a free position goal by Sidney Dobbins.
  • FIT would run off the next four goals to take a 6-2 lead. Sam Schiano gave the Panthers the lead for good at the 23:17 mark.
  • Anna Leva broke the string with her team-leading fifth goal of the season, but FIT answered with two more goals for an 8-3 advantage. Kandyce Graham scored off a pass from Uplinger with 2:56 left to play to close the gap to 8-4 at halftime.
  • The two teams exchanged goals to start the second half. Kailee O'Brien scored for FIT, but Stephanie Chido answered with a free position goal at 25:18 as Edinboro cut the deficit to four once again at 9-5.
  • Florida Tech would take control of the match with five consecutive goals, four of those in a span of just over three minutes. Leah Dunn's goal at the 18:29 mark made it 14-5.  Desiree Doucette ended the run with a goal, assisted by Olivia Thomas. That would be the last goal for the Fighting Scots, as the Panthers accounted for the last five goals to cap an 11-2 second half.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Florida Tech held a 36-13 advantage in shots, includiong a 22-5 edge in the final 30 minutes. Edinboro committed 22 turnovers and FIT 18.
  • Six different Fighting Scots put the ball in the cage led by Mary Uplinger with a goal and an assist. Sidney Dobbins, Desiree Doucette, Stephanie Chido, Kandyce Graham, and Anna Leva added a goal apiece. Olivia Thomas added an assist.
  • FIT had seven different players score, with Mollie Kaplan leading the way with five goals and two assists. Sam Schiano had four goals, while Leah Dunn contributed three goals and three assists.  
  • Candace McDole opened in goal for Edinboro and finished with seven saves while playing almost 44 minutes. Kaitlyn Binotto (14:27) and Christina Glutter (1:48) came in in relief. Chloe Zador had six saves for FIT.
NEXT FOR THE FIGHTING SCOTS
  • Edinboro returns to action on Tuesday, March 12 when the Fighting Scots travel to Rochester, N.Y. to take on Roberts Wesleyan at 4:00 p.m. The Fighting Scots will be in search of a first win for first-year head coach LeighAnn Stauffer.
