Edinboro Notches Season-High 14 Goals in Win over Lake Erie

The Short Story:  The Fighting Scots began a three-match homestand with their top offensive showing of the season with a season-high 14 goals. Four different players scored three goals apiece – Sidney Dobbins, Desiree Doucette, Sophie DePalma, and Anna Leva. Edinboro would jump out to an 11-5 lead at the half in its last non-conference match of the season, then scored the first two goals of the second half. The Storm never got closer than the final margin.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Edinboro jumped out to a 6-0 lead pwered by Sophie DePalma and Anna Leva. DePalma accounted for the first two goals less than ninety seconds into the match. Leva would then account for three of the next four goals, with DePalma assisting on the last goal, as Edinboro led 6-0 with 19:31 remaining in the first half. Sidney Dobbins accounted for the other goal in the fast getaway.
  • Lake Erie would close the gap to 6-2 with a pair of goals in just over a minute, the second at 15:09.
  • The Fighting Scots answered with three straight goals over the next six minutes for a 9-2 advantage. Desiree Doucette accounted for the first, followed by Katie Thoms' first career goal. Dobbins ended the run with a goal at 8:22.
  • Three straight goals by Lake Erie pulled The Storm back to 9-5 with just over a minute to play. The Fighting Scots would shock Lake Erie with a pair of goals in the final 30 seconds just 13 seconds apart, both by Doucette. The first came with 26 seconds left off a long pass from Mary Uplinger, and the second came with 13 seconds remaining. Edinboro would hold an 11-5 lead at intermission, topping the season-high for goals.
  • Dobbins scored her third goal and Stephanie Chido added a goal to start the second half, giving Edinboro a 13-5 lead with 25:30 to play.
  • Edinboro would score just once more, with DePalma notching her third goal on an assist from Leva. The Fighting Scots would lead 14-6 before Lake Erie ended the match with four goals in the last five minutes.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Edinboro had four different players score three goals. Sophie DePalma had 3 goals and 3 assists, with Anna Leva adding 3 goals and 2 assists. Sidney Dobbins and Desiree Doucette scored 3 goals, as well. Katie Thoms accounted for Edinboro's other goal, the first of her career. Dobbins laso finished with a school-record 12 draw controls.
  • Riley Heffron paced Lake Erie with 5 goals, adding an assist. Anna Spin added a pair of goals.
  • Candace McDole was once again outstanding in goal, registering 11 saves while allowing just 7 goals in just under 55 minutes. Kaitlyn Binotto relieved McDole and added a save.
  • Lake Erie would end with a slight 33-32 advantage in shots after Edinboro led 20-14 at the half. Edinboro committed 25 turnovers and Lake Erie 18.     
  • The Storm also used two players in goal. Harmony started, with Mackenzie Levine playing the final ten minutes of the first half. Moore then returned to play the entire second half. She finished with 12 saves, with Levine adding 3 more.
  • The 14 goals was a season-high for Edinboro and the most since a 15-11 win over Georgian Court on March 13, 2018. The Fighting Scots had scored 10 goals on three occasions this season.
  • The victory was also the first at Sox Harrison Stadium since February 23, 2018 when Edinboro defeated Wheeling Jesuit, 11-8, in the first game of the 2018 season.
NEXT FOR THE FIGHTING SCOTS
  • Edinboro continues its three-game homestand on Saturday, April 20 with a PSAC contest against Shippensburg. The Fighting Scots will recognize seniors Stephanie Chido, Meredith Dorn, and Desiree Doucette as part of Senior Day festivities prior to the match, which is set to begin at 11 a.m. at Sox Harrison Stadium.
