Leva, DePalma Tally Hat Tricks As Fighting Scots Win Over Shippensburg On Senior Day, 12-9

The Short Story:  Anna Leva and Sophie DePalma each scored a hat trick as the Edinboro women's lacrosse team picked up a 12-9 win over Shippensburg on Senior Day at Sox Harrison Stadium. Prior to the first draw control, Stephanie Chido, Meredith Doron, and Desiree Doucette were all honor for their dedication to the lacrosse program. With the win, Edinboro improves to 3-12 overall and 2-8 in the PSAC while Shippensburg falls to 4-10 overall and 2-8 in the PSAC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Edinboro jumped out to a 4-1 lead midway through the first half thanks in part to Sophie DePalma's hat trick. DePalma account for three of the first four goals for the Fighting Scots with Anna Leva scoring the other. Shippensburg pulled within on thanks to a pair of goals at 10:17 and 8:20 mark of the first half.
  • Sydney Dobbins pushed the lead back to two of a pass from Abigail Juzwick with 2:19 left before the intermission.
  • The Raiders scored the first two goals of the second half on back-to-back goals within 22 seconds of each other to tie the score up at 5-5 at the 26:39 mark of the second half. Over the course of the next seven minutes, Edinboro scored three goals thanks to Leva, Olivia Thomas, and Mary Uplinger giving the Fighting Scots a three goal lead once again. 
  • Shippensburg and Edinboro would go back and forth over the next five goals, with the Raiders pulling within two. Over the span Leva notched her third goal of the game at the 11:52 mark while Kandyce Graham scored what would be the game winner with 10:15 left in the game. 
  • The Fighting Scots added a pair of insurance goals 31 seconds apart, starting at the 1:31 point left the game thanks to a goal by Desiree Doucette off a pass from Leva. Meredith Doron scored her first career goal at the 1:00 minute mark to extend the Edinboro lead to 12-8. The Raiders would score with 40 seconds left, but the Fighting Scots held on for the 12-9 win.

  • Edinboro had eight different players score, including Leva and DePalma's hat tricks. Leva led all players with three goals and three assists for six points. Doron, Uplinger, Thomas, Dobbins, Doucette, and Graham all scored unassisted against the Raiders.
  • Eight players also scored for Shippensubrg led by Sydney Costanza's two goals.
  • Candace McDole was once again outstanding in goal, registering 13 saves while allowing just 9 goals while playing all 60 minutes in the cage. With her third save of the game, McDole reached the 400 save plateau for her career. She currently has 410 in less than two seasons for the Fighting Scots. 
  • Shippensburg held a slight 29-26 advantage in shots after Edinboro led 14-13 at the half. Both teams finished with 23 turnovers. 
  • The win against the Raiders marked the first time since March 11 & 13, 2018, with wins over Holy Family and Georgian Court, that the Fighting Scots have won back to back games. It also was the first win over Shippensburg since the 2015 season whe the Fighting Scots won a 16-9 contest, also in Edinboro. 


NEXT FOR THE FIGHTING SCOTS
  • Edinboro concludes its three-game homestand on Wednesday, April 24 with a PSAC contest against Mercyhurst. The game is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. at Sox Harrison Stadium.
