Manns Scores Twice as Edinboro Pulls Away Late for 4-0 Win at Cal U

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – Rebecca Manns scored a pair of goals and Edinboro scored three goals late to pull away for a 4-0 win at Cal U in a PSAC West match on Wednesday night. The Fighting Scots have now won two games in a row to improve to 2-2-0 overall, and are 2-0-0 in the PSAC West. The Vulcans are also 2-2-0 and 1-2-0 in league play.  The contest was played at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility. Edinboro has now won five straight matches against Cal.

Edinboro opened the scoring almost immediately, finding the back of the net at 2:02. Rebecca Manns scored her first goal of the season, taking a pass from Brittnie Spithaler and finding the far right side of the goal with a shot from the left side, beating Cal goalkeeper Gianna Sinatra.

That would be the lone scoring in the first half, with Edinboro holding a 5-3 advantage in shots.

Edinboro would add three goals in the final 14 minutes to pull away. Manns scored her second goal on a header off a free kick, assisted by Cameron Bujnoski, to make it 2-0 at 76:28.

Less than four minutes later, at 80:22, Sidney Dobbins scored her second goal of the season, assisted by Danielle Chatten, for a 3-0 lead. The margin grew to 4-0 at the 89:14 on Audrey Taylor's first career. The freshman took a pass in the box from Chatten and beat the goalkeeper.

Edinboro held an 11-5 advantage in shots. Both teams had five corner kicks. Anna Voelker picked up her first shutout of the season and fourth of her career as the sophomore recorded three saves.

The Fighting Scots will head back out on the road for another PSAC West match on Saturday, September 21, playing at Clarion. The match gets underway at 5:30 p.m.
