Fighting Scots Win Fourth in a Row with Dominating Win over Bloomsburg

  • The Short Story: Edinboro extended its winning streak to four straight matches with an impressive showing against visiting Bloomsburg. The Fighting Scots won by the score of 25-15 as they were able to take control early in each set. They are now 2-0 in the early stages of conference play. Edinboro played in front of former All-American Jenna Newman, who is being inducted into the Edinboro Athletic Hall of Fame tonight. For just the second time this season, someone other than Cierah Jackson led the team in kills. Freshman Bella Burrelli totaled 11 kills, with Jackson totaling 10. The junior has been in double figures in kills all 13 matches and now has 912 career kills, good for 13th place all-time.
HOW IT HAPPENED   
  • All three sets were similar in nature, with a tight, back-and-forth match early before Edinboro took control and coasted. The first set featured seven kills by Cierah Jackson as Edinboro hit. 353. It was a Jackson kill that gave the Fighting Scots the lead for good at 7-6 after five ties and two lead changes.
  • The second set featured an even stronger hitting performance by the Fighting Scots, as they hit .467. It was the freshman tandem of Bella Burrelli and Erica Sharp leading the way with four kills apiece. The set had just three ties and one lead change, with Edinboro taking the lead for good at 5-4.
  • The tightest of the three sets, set number three showcased six ties and two lead changes. However, it was still Edinboro grabbing the lead for good at 8-7 on a Sharp kill. That was part of a run of six straight points as the Fighting scots went from down 7-6 to leading 12-7. Bloomsburg would pull to within three at 17-14, but three straight Edinboro points built the lead to a comfortable margin.             
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING   
  • Freshman Bella Burrelli paced the Fighting Scots in kills with 11 for a .269 hitting percentage. She had a double-double, adding a team-high 13 digs.
  • For just the second time in 13 matches, Cierah Jackson failed to lead Edinboro in kills. She would reach double figures with 10, and has now been in double digits in all 13 matches this season. She now has 912 career kills, ranking 12th all-time at Edinboro.
  • Freshman Erica Sharp continued to contribute with 8 kills and an impressive .667 hitting percentage. She added 2 block solos and 2 block assists.   
  • Setter Alicia Eldredge had a team-high 29 assists to go with 3 block assists. She has moved into seventh place in career assists with 1,354.  
UP NEXT   
  • After five straight matches at home, Edinboro is on the road for three straight contests. The road trip gets underway with a pair of contests in eastern Pa., as Edinboro plays at East Stroudsburg on Thursday, October 3, followed by a match at Kutztown on Friday, October 4.
