HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both Edinboro and Notre Dame(Oh.) had been shut out in their season openers on Thursday, but the Fighting Scots notched their first goal of the season very quickly on Saturday. Brittnie Spithaler took a long pass down the right side from Danielle Chatten off a Falcons turnover and beat NDC goalkeeper Kyra McDowell from 15 yards out for a 1-0 lead at 3:55.
  • Notre Dame would score the next two goals to go ahead 2-1 late in the first half. Kazarie Kephart gathered in a pass on the left side from Katja Josipovic and fired a shot into the upper right corner to knot the match at 1-1. That goal came at 23:50. The Falcons went up 2-1 in the 39th minute on a penalty kick, with Michelle Escobar doing the honors.
  • Less than five minutes later the Fighting Scots returned the favor on a penalty kick of their own. Sidney dobbins beat the goalkeeper to the upper right corner and the match would head to halftime tied at 2-2.
  • Notre Dame scored the lone goal of the second half at the 65:58 mark. Andrea Spinelli's shot was saved by Anna Voelker, but the ball rebounded back to Kady Cushing, who headed it in from close range for the 3-2 lead.
  • Edinboro was unable to mount a serious threat the rest of the way. Voelker came up with a huge save to keep Edinboro within a goal late in the match as Escobar lofted a shot and Voelker was able to tip it away with under six minutes to play.
