Elhusseini, Barnes Fuel Fighting Scots to Impressive Win over Seton Hill

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team used a fast start and a season-best scoring effort from freshman guard Rana Elhusseini to continue its domination of Seton Hill. The Fighting Scots posted a 90-71 win over the Griffins at McComb Fieldhouse on Wednesday night, and have now won 21 of the 22 meetings all-time.

Edinboro has now won five of its last six games to improve to 9-7 overall and 7-5 in the PSAC West, pulling into a tie with Seton Hill. The Griffins lost for the fourth time in the last five games to fall to 12-5 overall and 7-5 in league play.

The Fighting Scots came out on fire and never trailed in the game, with Elhusseini leading the way. Edinboro scored the first eight points on an Elhusseini 3-pointer, a layup by Michaela Barnes, and a 3-pointer by Bridgette Shaffer. The lead was double digits for most of the first quarter before Taylin Tyler scored on a layup at the buzzer to cut Edinboro's lead to 22-14. Elhusseini accounted for nine points in the quarter on three 3-pointers.

The lead would grow to as much as 20 points in the second quarter as Edinboro went on a 13-2 run, with Elhusseini hitting a pair of 3-pointers and Barnes contributing a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws for a 39-19 lead with 3:19 remaining.

Seton Hill would stage a late rally, scoring the final five points, to close to 42-27 at the half. Elhusseini had 17 points at the half, bettering her season-high of 15 set against Shippensburg. Edinboro made 16 field goals in the first half, with eight of those 3-pointers. Elhusseini was 5-of-6 from beyond the arc.

Any hopes Seton Hill had of making a game of it vanished at the start of the third quarter, as Edinboro scored the first 11 points of the half. Shaffer had five points in the run, with her jumper making it 53-27 with 7:55 to play. The Fighting Scots would lead 76-50 after three quarters.

A Madison Amalia jumper and two free throws by Bella Burrelli gave Edinboro its largest lead of the evening at 80-50 less than a minute into the fourth quarter.

With Edinboro's lineup dotted with subs, the Griffins would stage a mini comeback, pulling to with 12 points at 83-71 with three minutes remaining. Edinboro would respond with the next five points on a Shaffer jumper, a Burrelli free throw, and Elhusseini's layup to close out the contest.
