EDINBORO, Pa. – In what may have been the most complete effort by the Edinboro women's basketball team this season, the Fighting Scots made it two wins in a row for the first time this season with an 86-55 win over Pitt-Johnstown at McComb Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.  The Fighting Scots are now 6-6 overall and 4-4 in the PSAC West. UPJ, meanwhile, suffered its sixth straight loss to fall to 7-7 and 2-6, respectively.

Edinboro was relentless on the glass and defensively. They set the tone early, jumping out to a 22-15 lead after one period despite making 8-of-25 shots. In the first ten minutes, the Fighting Scots outrebounded UPJ, 21-8, with 11 offensive boards. They outscored the Mountain Cats 16-8 in the paint and 10-2 on second chance points.

An 8-0 run midway through the first half started Edinboro on its way. Madison Amalia broke an 8-8 tie with a layup, and Michaela Barnes followed with another layup and free throw. Bella Burrelli followed with another 3-point play as Edinboro suddenly led 16-8.

Edinboro proceeded to outscore UPJ 18-8 in the second quarter to take a 40-23 lead at intermission. The Fighting Scots limited UPJ to just two field goals in the period, and entered the half with a 32-14 advantage on the glass. In fact, they had as many offensive rebounds as UPJ had total rebounds. In addition, Edinboro forced 13 first half turnovers.

Cheniya Sharpe had scored just nine points in the previous four games, but the redshirt senior forward nearly had a double-double at the half with 11 points and nine rebounds. She would end the night with a career-high 19 points, and pulled down 12 rebounds (six offensive) for her second double-double of the season. She made 7-of-11 field goals and was 5-of-6 at the line, while adding three steals. Edinboro finished the night with 19 steals.

Edinboro wasn't about to let Pitt-Johnstown rally in the second half. The Fighting Scots would build the lead to as much as 25 points on two occasions in the third quarter before settling for a 62-38 lead after three quarter. While reserves dominated the fourth quarter, Edinboro would still outscore UPJ, 24-17.

Edinboro ended the night shooting 49.3 percent (34-of-69) thanks to an outstanding effort in the second half, making 20-of-29 shots (69.0 percent). The Fighting Scots made 3-of-19 3-pointers and were 15-of-21 at the line. UPJ shot just 35.8 percent (19-of-53), including 4-of-25 on 3-pointers, and was 13-of-15 at the line.
